I have information on number of the Soviet captured AFV in the Romanian army for November, 1, 1942:

Generally, the caputed tanks could not be put into service due to lack of spare parts to repair them. Only the T-60 and the STZ could be put into service, since their engine was a Ford model also produced in Romania.
34 serviceable T-60 were converted in the TACAM T-60 tank destroyer. BT-7, T-26 and other T-60 tanks that could not be put into service had their armor plates cut and used in the shielding of TACAM T-60 and TACAM R-2 tank destroyers. A picture of a captured T-26B 2, used by the 1st Romanian Armored Division, Stalingrad, October 1942 Other captured tanks were used for AT training. |

The tanks weren’t used because of the lack of ammo and spare parts. Most were converted examples: T-60 became TACAM T60 (the armor of the superstructure was made out of armor of Russian tanks), the gun for the Vanatorul R-35 was taken from BT-7 and T-26, the superstructure of the TACAM R-2 was made out of amour plates from BT-7, the T-60 running gear was used for some prototypes of the Maresal.
The T-26 is the only one used but for a short period because of there poor quality and lack of spears. Probably the rest were used for training and some kept as war trophies, put on display on 10 may 1943 in Carol park, I have seen a picture of these tanks, but can’t remember were, and given to the military museum but taken by the Russians after 23 august 1944. mihnea, you mean this photo?
dragos covered the subject pretty well. All I would like to add is that there were also several flamthrowing tanks captured (T-26s IIRC) and there was the initiative to put several into service, but nothing came out of it. |

If so, you can see Mr. D. M. in the top photo, standing in front of his unique collection. Is your curiosity satisfied now, C-2? Gen. Dénes This post has been edited by Dénes on February 03, 2006 03:46 pm |

Holly Moses, C-2, is that a sample of a dentist's humor? I used to date a dentist while younger, gosh, I'm glad I haven't done a "capital" mistake.. By the way: the best advice when you're dating a denist is ...? "Don't!!!" Just a joke, no offence meant. |

You would think he would grow tired of this joke after repeating it ten times, nut no.
Back to the original topic. In 1944, the 2nd Tank Regiment had one BT tank, but which wasn't operational. |
