You must be a little more speciffic. Where did you find the word?
"Ambulanta" means Ambulance, meaning any kind of medical vehicle. It's not a unit, but a transport & intervention vehicle. A military medical unit has a variable number of such vehicles, depending of the size and deployment of that unit. The vehicle itself in WW2 was a car or truck equipped for this speciffic purpose. There were also a number of horse-pulled vehicles. The "crew" of such a vehicle consisted usually in 2 or 3 men: driver, paramedic and/or nurse. Maybe you'll find "ambulanta" described as attached to larger military units. That means a number of medical vehicles manned by that unit's sanitar personnel, but is used primarely to transport wounded to a field hospital. A field hospital has also a number of own ambulances, sometimes refeared as "serviciul de ambulanta". |

On the "Royal Romanian Army" website there is a list of Ambulanta units and the higher formation that they are attached to. Also on the "Romanian Postal History" website there is reference to Ambulanta Nr. 82, which led me to believe that this was a type of military unit. I very much appreciate your answer, any information is useful.
