What are some Romanian made Weapons that were created during the communist period. Small Arms, and other's too.
Is it true that Romania during the 1970's was the 4th larget weapons producer in the World? (Acording to Pacepa's Red Horizons, it was!)

Anyone heard of a "WUM-2"? It looks like a Kalashnikov but with a long barrel and a scope.
There is also SAR-1 (as well as SAR-2 and SAR-3), - Romanian made
Ak-47 / 74 look alike.
What are the main differences and what weapons are used in the modern Romanian Army today?

Pictures are from the following adress about automaticrifles:

What weapon is this one, being used here? It has a second wooden grip forward as well as a sliver metal muzzle, and it neither lookls like the Ak-47 nor the SAR-1.

In training....

As for the WUM-2, this is it: The WUM models are post-ban sporterized versions of the AK-74 & AK-47 assault rifles.

To me it looks like a modified AKM or AK-74 (I sure hope it's 74 if Romania plans to get included in NATO) with folding buttstock and GP-25 40mm grenade launcher. smile.gif

The sniper Rifle is a 7.62 Dragunov(SVD) L-1,227mm Weight(empty+sight)4.3kg loaded-4.78kg.
It has a cardrige of 7.62x54,efec.range-1300m.Muzzle velo.830m/sec.
Rate of fire (semiauto)30rpm.
Developed :1965-67.
The bolt mecanismand the gas recovery sistem are similar to the AK.
It has an internal batery for the sight.
The AK 47 made in Romania has ,like you said ,a second wooden grip that makes distingive the Rom AKM from the others.
Why this grip was "invented"I don't know.It makes the firing much dificult beside other inconvenients.Any way The AK is made in many countrys but "we "have the only Ak with this stupid wooden grip.

If someone can put on this forum a picture of a MP44/STG44 so everyone will know the the AK was copied from the Germans.
And a little harder to get,a picture of a MP 17,so everyone will know that the Russians also copied their PPSH 41....

C2, the sniper rifle is not a Dragunov... I'll post pics of a Dragunov as soon as I get home. The requested pics of Stg 44 will be up too.

Cuski, we are already in NATO. biggrin.gif ...unfortunately
:x
The purpose of NATO as stated by one of it's founder was to: Keep the Russians out, to keep the Germans down, and to keep the Americans In. We got in probably because we are more Western Friendly then we are Russian friendly. There are also many other interests behind the scenes of which we know nothing and better not know..

The Dragunov is a Rifle, it is very long. It's not the one I was talking about. I know the Dragunov, I'm interested in Sniper rifles especially, and this is not it.

The Sturmgewehr 44 - this is the one you were talking about. There is also the 43 Model. MP stands for Machine-Pistole (Machine Pistol), and MG for Machinen-Gewehr. *** This was the best weapon of the Second World War - it had the accuracy and range of a Rifle in single shots and short bursts, combined with a large Magazine of rounds, and with very rapid fire.
Range, Accuracy, Large Magazine, Versatile and Lethal, simply the best.
This is it:

user posted imageUncle Kalashnikov

In 1947 the base model AK, developed by a Russian solder, Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov, entered service in the Soviet Union. Today the AK-47 is the most wide spread weapon in the world. More than 50 armies of the world have in their arsenals firearms created by Kalashnikov. Under the items of information available in the literature to the midst of 1990 there were made about 70 millions units of Kalashnikov submachine guns of various modifications both in our country and abroad including those made under license and piratically (till nowadays the invention has not been patented).

The most wide spread arm in the world, perfect for 3rd World countries, you can buy one in Somalia on the black market, and in Pakistan as well and who knows where else, + they make you a fake licence for it too for roughly $100 US. - source: National Geographic smile.gif

And the AK-74 with grenade Launcher, similar to the one in the Trainig picture above...

PS: In the Romanian Army Museum in Bucarest, there is a nice collection of AK's on the lower level. All the AK familly, including SAR-1 etc etc...and the weapons of the 1989 Revolution! :?
It's worth seeing

You most likely misunderstood my post, Maresal... my comment was directed at C2, who claimed that the bottom picture you posted was a Dragunov, which is not.

And I do know what the Stg 44 was

Yes,It's not a Dragunov! I didn't studied the picture enought.
The rifel is shorter and looks like a combination between a AK and a Dragunov...
Great pictures of the MP!
If you can find one of the MP 17 it will be great!

At the Military Museum Of Bucharest ,at the AK"colection",is a AK with a melted barell. There was a rumor after the "revolution"that the Rom made AK were poorly made and their barrel use to melt after a few magazins at autom.fire.
Does it true?
