The Chief of Staff Air Force, Major General Jan Andersson hosted a visit from his Romanian colleague, Lieutenant General Gheorge Catrina.
Tuesday and Wednesday, 16-17 of May, they visited Skaraborg Wing.

The Air Lift Unit with it's C-130 Hercules system was shown, and also the Gripen system that during 2005 trained not less than 44 Gripen pilots from three countries (Sweden, Czech Republic and Hungary).
F7 Gripen display pilot, captain Henric Holm, performed an air display.
The highlight was the flight in the two-seat version of Gripen. The Wing Commander, Colonel Fredrik Hedén, told that the Romanian Chief of Staff Air Force was impressed by the performance and everything he had seen during the flight. "To hear those words from a Chief of Staff Air Force that has experienced a lot of other countries equipment feels very positive", ended Colonel Fredrik Hedén.

Yes.

General Catrina became an Air Force officer in 1975 after graduating from the Air Force Academy while earning his fighter pilot wings the same year.

Thanks for replys. I asked if he is a pilot, because if he is there are more chances to understand the needs and to fight to obtain better equipments/planes for his coleaguess - pilots. And flyng on different types he can see with his eyes who is better for our needs.
You guys know about Grippen and not Falcons from official sources or just rumors?

Tomcat, you wrote somewhere about why you want F-18? If yes, please show me where. I want to know why.

I still hope for even 2nd hand F16 in place of new Gripens. Can't get enough of that plane.

Both F-16 and F-18 are much more costly to operate as the Gripen, at least double for the flight hour. Another thing is the posibility to use the Gripen like Sweden in case of war, trough dispersion and use of strips of roads. The F-16 can`t do this, perhaps the F-18 with his aeronaval ancestry can... The probability is that in war the oponent (like always in our history) will be more in numbers, so dispersal is esential for the survival of our air force.

But when for 150 mil. we get a lot of F-16, and we give them the ACE upgrade, than maybe is a solution for let`s say 10 years, and we can than afford to wait and buy what`s best on the market at that time. Hopefully the cash available will be much more then. cool.gif Or maybe we can buy then some 2nd hand Eurofighters or so... wink.gif
