I found a german document which says the following about these romanian units:

Data for 25th of March 1944:
Rum.IX.J.Gr.: Odessa, 15 combat-ready planes
Rum.49.J.St.: Saki(Krim), 0 planes
Furthermore, teh document mentions the II./JG52 (38planes) in Gramatikowo/Krim.

Also, I remember a soviet picture with a destroyed Ju87 with Michaels-cross (and a Lw-Fw190) which is said to be taken in Sevastopol.

Who has more informations about ARR-units in the Crimea? It sounds reasonable, because there were lots of romanian ground troops also...

The source is a table taken from a report of General Deichmann about Luftwaffe operations in support of the Heer.

I do have info about it but it is at home. What I remember now: for long period of time an IAR-80 squadron was maintained in Crimea (43 - 44). Also for some brief period Ju87 units used airfield from Crimea. The info about IAR I will be able to provide faster because I know where to look.

There were several units that operated from airfiels in Crimea.

The IAR-80 equipped 49th Fighter Squadron of the 4th Fighter Group served in the Crimea between summer 1943 - April 44, providing fighter cover for Axis convoys. For a brief period in 1943, the 43rd Fighter Squadron served in the Crimea before being reassigned to the 7th Fighter Group in the Ukraine.

The other important unit was the 3rd Dive Bomber Group, which flew missions over the Kuban and then over Crimea between the summer of 1943 and May 1944. They abandoned the aircraft at Khersones and were flown out by Ju-52s. The photo you saw was of one of their aircraft.

The 9th Fighter Group also resided for a brief period in Crimea in early 1944 (at Genichesk IIRC).

Hi Victor,

Are you sure 3rd Dive Bomber Group left its aircraft at Khersones in May 1944? I thought it was operating in the Ukraine at the time. Wasn't it a fighter squadron that was trapped in the Crmea?

Cheers,

Sid.

The 3rd Dive Bomber Group wasn't operating in the Ukraine in May 1944. It was in Romania reorganizing and re-equipping. It started operations again at the end of the month from Tecuci, IIRC.

You may be confusing it with the 6th Dive Bomber Group.

Hi Victor,

Yup. You are right. I double checked.

My mistake. I thought you meant Grup 3 Bopi abandoned its aircraft in the Crimea. My mistake!

Cheers,

Sid.

That is exactly what I meant.
