Managed to find some data about the "misterious" Zarnesti guns factory. Seems we are discussing about the Tohanu Vechi millitary factory (a suburb of Zarnesti) which produced ammo and equipment for the defence industry.
A less known aspect about the activity of this plant is the existence of the so-called "blue battery", a small unit formed by the workers for the factory, who had a series of fights with the retreating german troops during the last days of August 1944. From a book titled "The memories of a soldier" (actually the memories of former prime-minister Adrian Nastase's father, who commanded this battery durin these times), we learn that in 26 August 1944, the "blue battery" (named after the colour of the clothing worn by the Zarnesti factory workers" had: 3 guns of 75 mm, 1 howitzer of 100 mm, 1 mortar of 120 mm and 1 of 81 mm, 4 mortars of 60 mm and 2 anti-tank guns. The 57 workers that composed this ad-hoc unit fought till 6 September 1944, when they where replaced by regular units form 19th Artillery Regiment and "Tudor Vladimirescu" Division. Is that Aurel Vlaicu's monument (outside Campina) on the right edge of the picture?
