Has anyone heard anything about the new Romanian SMG, 9mm Dracula or the AK adapted for 5.56 mm?

Waiting for replies.

I know that in the past years a SMG called RATMIL was produced, even saw photos with gendarmes on mission in Kossovo using it, but unfortunately do not know too much about it.

Iamandi is teh Jericho, by any chance the new 9 mm pistol used by Romanian troops in Irak? It is designated only as 9 mm pistol model 2002 IIRC, without any data about it.

The pistol used by romanian troops is in the second picture presented by Iamandi. The new romanian SMG(same named RATMIL),is used especially by gendarmes forces, not army, becouse is a weapon used in short distance fight(like HK MP 5 series,or UZI,for example).Have 9 mm calibre,30 rounds, arround 100m effective range(HK MP 5 have arround 120m)and have a much low weight than HK.And is much simple, probably based in part on AK.

Is the Jericho being produced under license in Romania or is it being imported?

About Dracula,if i am not wrong,is a hibrid weapon, inspired by russian Stechikin, half pistol, half SMG(an idea used to Beretta 93,or Glock 18 to),but not qouite good(is very hard to handled in automatic fire way).

Jericho - This SPP officer, tell me about one of variants.... it was bad, big, poor alloys, etc. "BAD". More heavy then original.

About this "ratmil" - udar, you have pics, or something?

Iama

Edit: About Stecikin, some friends tell me good words about him. Some of them have now Makarov - good weapon, but short range, others have TT, another good weapon, and unlucky ones have Carpati. About Carpati... (it is need to write???)

udar, it is a possibility to be wrong with this. I know about a trade form Israel, with smgs for this kind of teams. Maybe is a license production from an israeli smg. I make some search, and i post another mesage with one pic - maybe you confirm, or infirm ... You see it tis smg? Or is a presumtion?

Iama

Edit: from what i read... officials of Israel anunces retreat of this smg, because of bad fiability, design, etc. - complains of spec. ops. who used live in action. I don't remember well, but i read in romanian press about this subject - Israel trow out (more exactly was given to schools and training units - second line units), and Romania aquire it.

"The IMI Magal is a modified version of the IMI Galil Micro Assault Rifle (MAR) and was designed for Law Enforcement.

The Magal features several modifications from the original Galil MAR design:

Lighter plastics stock.

Full pistol grip hand size guard, allowing using the weapon as a club as well as reducing the risk of the weapon been snatched from the officer during a violent riot.

Chambered for the 0.3 caliber instead of the original 5.56 mm one.
The Magal was designed with two roles in mind:

Replace the old M1 carbines currently used by the Israeli Civilian Guard.

Provide Israeli police units with less intimidating weapon then the M16 family of assault rifles.

The new weapon was chambered for the 0.3 caliber (same as the M1 carbine) since the Magal is supposed to be used in urban areas and the 0.3 caliber has less chance of over penetration then the more potent M16/Galil 5.56 mm round.
Originally, the Magal was supposed to replace most M16 weapons used by the non SF police units as well as the M1 carbines used by the Israeli Civil Guard, and a contact of 4000 Magal units was awarded to IMI. The weapon was also offered for other countries Law Enforcement agencies.

The first 1,000 units were supplied to the Israeli Police for T&E in 1999-2000, with another order of 3000 Magal units pending on the initial order's success.

The Magal was intensively used in the recent Israeli-Palestinian clashes in the Territories and had proved to be a most unreliable weapon. The problem was attributed to its extremely short barrel which produced insufficient gas pressure, especially when barrel mounted accessories such as riot control devices were in place.

Eventually, in early 2001 the usage of Magal in the police was almost completely suspended and most of them were sent back to the IMI for improvements. "
