The eternal glory is there as a comment on the sacrifice made by the common soldier in the War, it (Glory) is a commmon word found on military monuments all over the globe and not just on Russian Communist Monuments, it expresses the sentiment of the time.

Sure, but I dont think there are monuments saying "eternal glory to the national socialist soldiers" or "eternal glory to the fascists soldiers". Are there? The "soviet" soldier has something to do with ideology.

All soldiers have something to do with ideology, they must have something to believe in or they would not be fighting tongue.gif

OK, so let's write "eternal glory to the nazi/fascist soldier" too.

I think we wouldnt tell a lie or do a mistake if we would change that monument into "eternal glory to the russian soldier".

Well of course if the Nazi's had won the War what you propose* would have been written, but history shows there isno glory for the losers.

You are avoiding the main point - the text should be changed to "russian soldiers" and the sickle and hammer dropped. The red star on each soldier's grave is enough I think. Come to think of it, the poor guys didnt even have crosses, only a red star. Sick. sad.gif

Well if you start now with a Cross stencil and a few cans of spray paint you can rectify the missing crosses, might give you something to do in your spare time tongue.gif

Should only take a few years unsure.gif

gentlemen, the obsession over German war crimes is part of the reason why Antosecu is given more attention to than the Soviet soldiers, despite the fact that the Soviet Union caused far more harm to Romania. People make money out of making publicity of National socialism, so they take Antosecu as an example. No one does the same with Bolshevism. Guess that has something to do with growing socialist and left wing governments in the EU. That being said, the West, Europe, is dying. It's a sick world.

Well besides Antonescu's statue & Monuments, it seems that some burial places of other Romanian Heros are not sacred as well, if you read the posts in another section with regards Burial places in graveyards.

These real Heros have had their eternal rest disturbed, their bones and headstones removed to make way for the "New (ex-Communist) Heros".

Is there such a great following for Antonescu ?? I though the majority of Romanians hated him?? after all he gets the blame for selling out to the Third Reich tongue.gif

Kevin in Deva. biggrin.gif

You have no Idea where you are.

Most Romanians admire Antonescu, he is a national hero. Thats why statues and street names began to appear after the fall of Communism, dedicated to him and others that had been labeled criminals under the old regime.
There are Generals in the Romanian military today that want him rehablitated, that admire his deeds, but cannot say so loud because of our alliance with the west

The very fact that we Romanians today cant express out true feelings and thoughts about the Second World War, about the men who lived and faught in those days, about the Ideas and the beliefs that all the true romanians shared during those times, and the fact that our history is being re-written, and told only how the winning powers want it to be told - proves that we still live under the old yolk - the same opressors of yesturday, but under the new flag.
Both Hitler and Antonescu, and the Romanians in general have been to kind to you british, and to westerners in general, expecting honey and milk from them, tarritorial guarantees and other "great expectations" that never came true.
rolleyes.gif You dont want me and my kind to be anywhere in power in Romania cause on that day, the buttkissing of our west European friends and liberators will end wink.gif You and your American couzins are just opressors and colonialists like everyone else. Dont hide under the nice words, you'r just wearing a mask.
All the problems in this world, originate because of England. It was england that declared war on Germany in both world war, and you'r trying to play the victim.

I remember there was a brief period of FREEDOM - true Freedom - in Romanian history.. a little after the fall of Communism in the early 1990's, when Forbidden books started to appear, you could buy them on the street at every market, old songs, flags things that you never knew existed before started to appear. Peoples started talking more about our war from 1941-44, veterans started to share their stories of those days without fear, films, and alot of material was beginning to be availabe to the public. When a system collapses - things turn 180o degrees, and I wish i had relieved those days again.
But it was short lived. Nationalism must be put down, - and must be rooted out.
I have a pretty good feeling of who's doing it. Its you western opressors

Der Maresal, I seriously disagree with most of what you said and would be curious to see you back them up. First of all, you have no idea what Romanians are thinking, simply because you don't live among them. Most don't even know who was Antonescu and what he did. In fact you yourself don't really know it too well.

Indeed history is being rewrtitten to show the truth, to show what actually happened then and if you don't like it that is your problem, but please don't assume that everyone else thinks the way you do. And for your information, books are still being published, veterans are still talking about their experiences.

The second part of your post is already off-topic, not to mention outright silly, but I have a question for you. If you hate the "West" so much, then why do you live there?
