Hello,
I've found this while visiting an abandoned military base in Bucharest - looks like the remains of a grenade of some sort, a fragmentation body or something . Can someone tell me exactly what it is, and from what period ( communist times, I presume ) and provide a picture with a complete one (with fuse and everything else ) . Thanks a lot . |

It might also be a part of a rifle grenade or a mortar round.

I was referring to a WWI mortar round like this one, in the last picture.

It resembles a Soviet antipersonnel mine I have seen, which looked very much like a stick grenade. I know it was used by some of their allies too.
There was a short wooden stake with that grenade at the top, and a trip wire with a ring at one end. Unfortunately I don't have any of my references handy. I concur it's not a mortar round or rifle grenade. They're much more aerodynamic. |

Well, It is located behind the Politehnica's "Leu" Complex. I've attached a picture with the location of it, and also a couple of pictures from the "expedition". As It can be seen in the pics the base is pretty deserted, and the buildings apear to have been used as shelter by the homeless people. However there is a hut with military personnel ( guards ) attached to the wall near the main gate but I think they are not guarding this base, but an attached military "yard" - in the actual perimeter of the base ( within its fences ) there was no military personnel, or buildings curently in use - However, I do not recomend to enter by the main gate, but use the wall near the abandoned railway (where the railway starts to "bend" ) - there are some holes in the wall there. Location of the base: Pictures from the expedition: This is the attic of the main building: And a couple of pictures of varios objects found and some of the rooms from the buildings ( we explored all of the buildings ) . |

The building complex is next the old location of the Air Force Officer School, where the new building by the Milea Blvd. is.
