When legionaires returned back home after the Spanish Civil war, they brough with them rifles, machine guns etc etc..
My question is what kind of weaponry did they have overall, especially when the rebellion in early 1941 took place and they came up against the army. |

Perhaps it was normal for a political movement in those days - to be armed - but I think today whey would be considered terrorists, wouln't they?
I documentary I have, shows the rebellion in 1941, and in it sais that the 'weaponry' of the army was far superior and in this "in-equal" confrontation hundreads of green-shirts were killed. :? |

See the legionnaire in the image (no. 2)? Most of them were armed with Mausers

Here's an official news photo from eBay, with an interesting legend:
"MAY RULE RUMANIA FOR THE NAZIS. BUCHAREST, RUMANIA........ACCORDING TO DIPLOMATIC REPORTS FROM SEVERAL QUARTERS THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT BARON MANFRED VON KILLINGER (ABOVE), GERMAN MINISTER TO RUMANIA, MAY BE PROCLAIMED "GAULEITER" (DISTRICT LEADER) OF ALL RUMANIA, ASSUMING DIRECTION OF GERMAN EFFORTS TO QUELL FACTIONAL STRIFE THAT HAS BROUGHT A STATE OF CIVIL WAR WITHIN THE PAST WEEK. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, SEVERAL HUNDRED PERSONS HAVE BEEN KILLED SO FAR IN THE FIGHTING BETWEEN EXTREMISTS AND SOLDIERS OF GENERAL-DICTATOR ION ANTONESCU." Did Hitler plan to actually occupy Rumania in January 1941? |

This is a bullshit press photo of Anglo-American propaganda... Killinger was never "gauleiter" and Rumania opened since November her doors to the German mission, so to the German forces. Hitler didn't occupy Romania... Antonescu requested the German troops, as a guarantee of security against a possible Soviet invasion, and later in 1941, for the preparation of Operation Barbarossa. The photo legend says clearly: "THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT BARON MANFRED VON KILLINGER (ABOVE), GERMAN MINISTER TO RUMANIA, MAY BE PROCLAIMED "GAULEITER" (DISTRICT LEADER) OF ALL RUMANIA." There could very well be German plans to occupy Rumania in case the civil war would have worsened. |

Of course that the Germans may had a plan to occupy Romania, in order to prevent a Soviet intervention and the capture of the oilfields...

During the short skirmish between Antonescu and the Iron Guard, my grandfather, as military on duty, took part to the assault and conquering of the Iron Guard headquarter in Deva. After the little battle, as he liked weaponry in general, he returned home with nice trophies: a big bag full of bullets and few portable machine guns. Generally speaking, the personal arsenal of my grandfather in the 40's was enough to equip several men. Florin |

mostly german weapons as the legionnaires were seen by the nazi as a way to obtain firm control of romania ( oil fields , metals , wood ) and thus had great importance for them ...
i remember reading somewhere of kar 98 , c96 , p-08 and p38 ( i'm not sure of the latter ) but they did have submachine guns ... |

My grandfather was a Nest Leader (Sef de Cuib) and had a Colt. He got rid of it (and of his affiliations) during the rebelion. Apparently almost all members of his family were powerful members of the "Fratia de Cruce" movement including Radu Gyr which was a his (second grade) cousin. Unfortunately those that managed to escape (and their kids) are all scattered around the world and my attempts to contact them and discuss about the family history failed.
