Hi Alex,

The irrecoverable Romanian loss of R-2s in 1941 was 26 vehicles.

In the 1942 campaign 29 R-1s were still on strength. As only 36 were bought this means irrecoverable losses in 1941 cannot have been more than seven.

On 1 April 1943 there were still 59 R-35s on strength. As the Romanians had 75 to start with, this means irrecoverable losses in 1941 cannot have been more than 16 vehicles.

However, it should be remembered that in 1941 the Romanians were left in control of the battlefields and could recover knocked out tank hulks and repair them. Thus the "irrecoverable loss" figures are well below actual combat losses.

In fact the great majority of Romanian R-2s and R35s were probably incapacitated at some time in 1941. For example, 60 R-2s were also seriously damaged but recoverable in 1941 and virtually all others had suffered lesser damage.

On 27 September the remains of 1st Armoured Division (1st Assault Detachment) could field only 12 R-2s and 10 R-35s. However, it should also be noted that the relatively new Romanian maintenance services were not up to, say, experienced German standards, so it is likely that mechanical failure also accounts for a high proportion of unserviceable vehicles. It was not just combat that took a toll.

Cheers,

Sid.

Hi Sid!

Many thanks for the information. You were right losses more. But only the part of losses was irrevocable.

Whether there is an information on losses of a division on month by month?

I know that historians have well studied this theme. 1 DB always was pride of the Romanian army.

Best Regards!

Alex.

Hi Alex,

Without be able to be specific, I think you will find that the period from about 10 August to about 30 August saw the heaviest tank losses for both 1st and 2nd Armoured Regiments. This short period may even have seen the majority of R-2 and R35 losses in 1941.

Cheers,

Sid.

Hi Alex, unfortunately I won't have time to post the information that interests you until this weekend.

For tank losses of the 1st Armored Division there is already some info in this topic: http://www.worldwar2.ro/forum/index.php?showtopic=2911

According to Armata Romana in al doilea razboi mondial (1941-1945) - Dictionar Enciclopedic, the 1st Armored Division lost during the 1941 campaign: 34 officers, 102 NCOs and 1125 soldiers (killed and wounded), 463 rifles, 54 LMGs, 5 HMGs, 206 cars and trucks. The tank losses are in the above mentioned topic.

According to my own count, the 1st Armored Division had 156 killed, 485 wounded and sick and 30 missing in action. I have no clue for the moment why there is a 590 men difference.

Thanks! Your information very important for me.

In losses the "given" divisions unit could be considered.

Victor, whether is data on the Romanian losses on divisions during
Fights in Bessarabia /Moldova in June-July, 1941? Not only losses
D1B, but also other divisions (infantry) and cavalry brigades. Any Russian/Soviet source does not give us the answer to this question.

Once again thanks!

Regards!

Alex.
