This is a Romanian interwar ammo box probably for this mountain gun http://www.worldwar2.ro/arme/?article=323 , but I'm not 100% sure (the year and the approximate weight of the shells match with the ones inscribed on the box).

It belonged to my grandmother, she used it for many years as a storage box for grains, and later on for growing chickens (for this role it was used without the lid).

When I found the box in the attic it was without the lid, fortunately the lid was in another attic, together with one of the hinges (although it was half broken). The reassembly was easy and I was able find some one willing to make a new hinge, after the original one.

As you can see most of the original marking are well preserved, except the ones on the lid.

The repro hinge vs. the original (notice the weld); the screws are temporary, until I will find better replacements.

Notice the small hole on the left made by a mouse.

This is a Czech ammo box found in a barn and until this winter it was used as a step.

Because it is made in 1937 it was probably for the ZB 30 LMG.

When I got it:

The peasant that owned it is a war veteran but was in "Transmisiuni" and never saw front line action, he was never away from Bucharest. After a short talk I asked him if he has anything left from the war and asked him if I can take a look in his barn, he said ok and the rest is history. biggrin.gif
