Hi! For the clipping mechanism, it looks original. But the best way to see if it's original, look at the side. If you see 3 sheets of metal laminated together you got the real thing!!!!!!!!

Hallo Claudiu1988,
I showed pictures of your Iron Cross at the GMIC Forum, the reply I got back so far from two members is this: From Member "Danny 70": who included pictures of a known FAKE from his collection. "I wondered if you know if it is a 3 piece cross? I ask because it looks very like this one piece fake (especially the hinge, pin and clasp on the back). I cannot tell from your pictures but it looks like it may have the same '800' mark on the pin too. It may just be the lighting, but the paint on the core where it meets the frame looks odd too, also suggesting a one piece. The spacing of the beading at 8 o'clock looks irregular too," From Member: "Joel" "I would have to agree with you seeing the comparison presented before me. It looks to be a one piece Kev. In the first picture in the upper left please draw your attention to the paint of the core towards the left arm of the cross. . . It looks as though it was applied after the one piece cross was manufactured and looks as though it forms a seal on the arm. Just my observation of course." As with many iii reich pieces turning up in Romania & the world market, these have been extensively faked in Russia, Latvia, Ukraine, Poland etc, unless you have bought reference books and studied the subject carefully then you need to be very careful, as these have fooled even some of the experts. Thanks for the help New Connaught Ranger.
I will put more pictures with the iron cross from different angles and you can post them on the site so they can tell me if the cross is originall or not. The cross isn't marked with 800. I will put the photos today. |

Hallo Claudiu 1988
Can you please supply a picture of the rear, the gentlemen at GMIC always want to look at both sides before giving an opinion. Kevin in Deva |

Hi Claudiu,
Sorry for responding so late, been busy at work. 1. EK 2 is a classic polish/russian garbage, but you seem to know that already, so that one is just for the record. 2. The KVK is another piece of junk. Here are these photos from WAF (of an original MM84 "Carl Poellath Schrobenhausen") - check the MM - this is the first giveaway. Sorry for being the bearer of bad news. Cheers, Al |

Claudiu,
Almost forgot. The best photos to base form a definitive opinion are the straight-angle photos/scans. The photos you posted of the back are taken from an angle. Perhaps photos with a better lighting and from a straight angle will help more than those already posted. Also, some close-ups of the catch and hinge will be more than welcomed. And a close up on the MM too. Perhaps these new photos will do the trick. Until then, I stick to my original opinion. Cheers, Al |
