I see that almost all of the words are in English. Are there no Romanians on this forum? Why do we speake in English if we are Romanians?

Among the songs I saw on this page I recognized several Legionnaire songs. My question is: were there units made up only from members of the Iron Guard?

No. The army was apolitical in that period.

From what I have read the Iron Guard, or the Legionare Movement was non-political. I was formed just as a reunion, or something like that. The Iron Guard was like the scouts are today. For more information go to www.miscarea.com

Well, you understood wrong. The Iron Guard was a political movement and was involved in elections.

and this:

Î N A I N T E
(dupa cântecul unui ofiter mort în 1917)
Copiii mei înaintând,
La mine luati aminte
Si–atâta dor s'aveti în gând:
"'Nainte, tot înainte, înainte".
Misel nici unul nu–i din voi,
Caci ochiul meu nu minte,
Copii rusinea e'napoi, 'napoi,
Victoria e'nainte.
Cu arma'n mâna ne–am legat,
Sub steag, prin juraminte,
Sa strigam tot înainte,
Cât viata'n piept n'o fi încetat.
Caci pentru o brazda de pamânt,
Parinti si oseminte,
Si dincolo chiar de mormânt,
Vom merge tot înainte, 'nainte.
Misel nici unul nu–i din voi,
Caci ochiul meu nu minte.
Copii rusinea e'napoi, 'napoi,
Victoria–i 'nainte.

My children... in the advance
Listen to me please.
And remember this one thought:
"Forward, forward. always forward"
Weak none is one of you,
My eye don't lie,
Kids, the distress we leave behind.
Victory is forward
With the weapond that we strech in hads.
Underneath the flag, underneath the swear.
Let's shout outloud forward.
Until the life in ower chests will not be gone.
Becouse for a piece of land
Bearing ower parents graves.
And even over ower graves.
We will forward march.. always forward.
Weak none is one of you,
My eye don't lie...
Kids, the distress we leave behind.
Victory is forward.

Some Iron Guard songs were deleted. This organization did not have anything to do with the army, which as I already said was appolitical.

Army Songs of 1941
Original Recordings

This is an Mp3 file with original songs and marches from 1941.
The quality is not great but can be improved by turning the speakers real laud.

The first song I do not know the name, but I find good. The very last song is called "Armata noastra, trage la hotare" (Our army is heading to the lands)
Is is of better quality and volume.

really nice songs but poor recording.

There is a CD you can find called "Graiul Neamului"

Maresal, I also have that CD and I highly recommend it.

I bought it last summer from "Magazinul Muzica", Calea Victoriei. They probably still have it.

Hi mabadesc, I do have all the songs of Graiul Neamului, plus all those of 'Corul flacailor din finteiusul Mare', plus some monarchist songs, and two tapes of military marches and songs of the romanian army sung by the military choir today, in addition to some original recordings from the war like the above link mp3. smile.gif

the only thing I don't have are the text - my only chance is to find some guy from the army, (musician) or a veteran who knows them.

Dac'am plecat Ardealule din tine (1940)
(MP3)
This song was composed and sung after the anexation of North Ardeal.
It was sung again by the troops in 1944 on the offensive.

Dac'am plecat Ardealule din tine,
Nu–i vina noastra, iarasi vom veni.
N'am fost învinsi si nu vom fi nici mâine,
Când ceasul biruintei va sosi.

Refren: Avem o tara scumpa si mândra,
Avem si iarasi vom avea;
Dusmanul care astazi râde,
Va tremura privind la ea.

Noi te iubim ca tu ai fost al nostru,
si viata pentru tine ne-am fi dat,
dar prind dictatul rusinos so monstru,
Hortistii-au reusit de te-au furat.

Refren: Avem o tara scumpa si mândra,
Avem si iarasi vom avea;
Dusmanul care astazi râde,
Va tremura privind la ea.

De-aici din departari privind spre tine,
si plingem jalnic chinul tau amar,
cind stim ca fratii cei ramasi in tine,
sint torturati de un popor barbar.
( tongue.gif !)

Refren: Avem o tara scumpa si mândra,
Avem si iarasi vom avea;

Avem si iarasi vom avea;
Dusmanul care astazi râde,
Va tremura privind la ea.

Vom trece iar pe vechea frontiera,
dreptatea noastra e Stapana-acum.
Prin viselii si foc de Mitraliera,
Armata noastra isi va face drum.

Refren: Avem o tara scumpa si mândra,
Avem si iarasi vom avea;
Dusmanul care astazi râde,
Va tremura privind la ea.

Credinta-in tara si mereu inainte,
sa cucerim ce-avem de cucerit.
Ardealul nostru e o tara scumpa,
Salaj, Bihor si Clujule iubit ?

Refren: Avem o tara scumpa si mândra,
Avem si iarasi vom avea;
Dusmanul care astazi râde,
Va tremura privind la ea.

Another variation of "Toba bate" (1941)

MARŞUL MOLDOVEI

Drum bun, drum bun, toba bate,
Drum bun bravi Romani.
Cu sacul legat în spate,
Cu armele în mîini
Fie zi cu soare sau cerul noros,
Fie ploi-ninsoare, noi mergem voioşi.

Drum bun...(repetaţi primele patru rînduri!)
Fie la paradă, fie la război,
Toţi în şir grămadă, vesel mergem noi.
Drum bun...etc.
Steagul fîlfîiască, pentru el trăim,
Ţara să-nflorească, pentru ea murim.-

"Marsul Basarabiei" was a song I heard when I was a little girl; my grandmother sings it; we are from Chisinàu. I have the CD "Graiul neamului", really nice; I love it!!!

Hello everybody,

Maybe someone could tell me more about a song I cannot very accurately pinpoint.
What I know, from hearsay, is the title, that would be "Marsul generalilor" (The Generals' March), and the first verse (also from hearsay) "Luptam pentru tara si rege..." (We fight for country and king).
The tune was used in the soundtrack of several romanian movies on historic topics, during the 70' and 80'. There was one series of 6 movies in 1977 at the Independency Centennial about the 1877 war, as well as 1 or 2 S. Nicolaescu movies with WWII topics that had the tune in the soundtrack, beautifully orchestrated, but no words, of course.
