Well....? How did the meet go ? Any great finds ?

just up after a late night, after arriving back to Deva at 20:00 from Brasov by train, I then headed to my step sons 18 th Birthday party in a local resturant, finished there at 03.30 this morning, I was 3 hours short of 48 hours without sleep will post some info a little later, I will say a good attendance but very high prices on objects / items, downside was my camera was not working:angry: so no pictures.

While there I located this medal: THE BRITISH WAR MEDAL.


On the rim of the medal was the soldiers name, his rank and Unit, by using that information and searching the Comrades of the Great War website, I obtained the following information:

Name: MURRAY, JOSEPH.

Initials: J.

Nationality: United Kingdom.

Rank: Driver.

Regiment/Service: Royal Field Artillery, (R.F.A.)

Unit Text: 6th "B" Reserve Bde. attd. 34th Reserve Bty.

Age: 24.

Date of Death: 10/10/1919.

Service No: 91340.

Additional information: Son of Thomas and Rebecca Murray, of 26, Brookfield Terrace, Blackrock, Co. Dublin. (Ireland.)

Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead.

Grave/Memorial Reference: D. 35.

Cemetery: EDINBURGH (COMELY BANK) CEMETERY. Scotland.

I also obtained these 5 nice miniture American Military Medals.

With the passing of the Stolen Valour Act recently in America it has now become illegal for an an American to buy, sell, swop, or trade, certain types of military medals



The medals found in Brasov are: left to right,

Air Medal.

The Distinguished Flying Cross.

Asiatic & Pacific Campaign Medal.

Victory In WW2 Medal.

Army Good Conduct Medal.

Another nice piece I took was this Romanian Red Cross from the time of King Michael in 1941.

Awarded I believe to Nurse's who worked with the Military in caring for wounded soldiers.



The Rear:




On the left arm of the cross as you look at it, can be seen small stress cracks in the inner enamel, probably the result of being dropped at some time.

Does anybody know if the issue numbers are researchable??

The card has Cluj 3 IV 1927 to the rear in handwriting!

Interesting to find both English and USA militaria in Brasov. Were these items offered by Romanian dealers or were there dealers who came in from outside of Romania to set up at this meet ?

What about other type of militaria? Helmets, bayonets...prices?

There were no foreign militaria dealers as such, there is a Danish Guy who comes looking for stamps, and the rest to my knowledge are Romanian, or Hungarians who live in Romania.

One Romanian seller with a connection to the USA had a lot of the modern issue US Medals, on the short stubby ribbon, you can buy these in bulk on line and they hold no particular nterest to me, as the quality of the medals does not come close to original WW1 & WW2 up to Korea era Medals.

With there not being any dedicated "Militaria" only events, here in Romania, such as can be found in Germany, Great Britain, France, USA etc... etc... I dont think there is an outside interest in the Collectors Meetings in Romania.

I know that many proffesional dealers would not fly here unless they knew they would sell enough to cover the cost of their trip, hotel, and make a profit.

I think the economy of Romania is still seen as poor, with not much chance of a dealer making big sales.

And the locations would have to be in better conditions to suite the Western taste, large populated areas, show-rooms with air conditioning, large floor space, good toilets, car parking, etc...etc... no offence to the organisers here in Romania who have no choice but to look for the cheapest place around to stage the event, but, even the conditions in Brasov, where toilet facilities are in a very poor state, and no air conditioning to clear away the clouds of tobacco smoke (this year they were No Smoking signs on the walls but they were totally ignored.)

And of course when you look for a better location, the enterance price will go up and the price of a sellers table will go up, this will then reduce the local interest in attending the occassion.

ANDI with regards prices of items were very high, I saw about 20 German WW2 shells, most were damaged, taken from the ground and repainted. None with inner leather equipment. There were 4 or 5 Romanian WW2 shells again in poor condition.

I saw 1 Romanian "Dutch" Ww2 with CC badge, the guy wanted 200 Euro for it!!! I did not see more than 3 bayonets all in poor condition so I did not bother to ask the price.

There were quite a few FAKE nazi belt buckles on a few tables, all made by the same people and of very poor quality. Some fake nazi Iron Crosses.

I saw 1 Romanian Communist era helmet, normal army, in good condition with a price tag of 100 Euro!!! which is way to high of a price.
