... it was my grandfather's unit , his name was Cotea Petru. They have seen action on the Don's front ( Cotul Donului) and they helped some romanian /german army to whitdraw from the Stalingrad pocket ( I don't know the name of the army). I'm interested in some information about him. He was in the artillery. That's all I know. If you could find a picture of him, or some details regarding him/his unit action I would very much apreciate it. Thanks. with regards. a concerned citizen |

You are probably referring to the 5th Heavy Artillery Regiment, which was subordinated to the 3rd Army during the Soviet 1942/43 winter offensive.
If he was a career officer or NCO ("subofiter"), his file should exist at the Military Archives in Pitesti and easy to find if you know his date and place of birth. You should be able to find many details about him in his file. |
