Zodia capului de mort, capitan Ion Toba-Hatmanu, partisanjaeger

The book "Zodia capului de mort" is written by Dan Giju, based on documents collected by his friend capitan Traian Ghinescu (wich passed away in Canada few years ago).

The book depicts the life and military actions of capitan Ion Toba, nicknamed Hatmanu, who was fighting in Iaila Mountains against soviet partisans.
He commanded an entire 100% romanian unit in the fight against bolshevic partisans.

Later he went to Germany, where he fought in Otto Skorzeny's Jagdverband.

Due to the actions of capitan Ion Toba Hatmanu, Putna Monastery, with the tomb of Stefan cel Mare is still inside romanian borders, cos in the days of 1940 when soviets ocuppied Basarabia and Bucovina, they crossed the demarcation line, trying to ocupy more territory that it was agreed.
Bold actions of capitan Toba saved the monastery.

I found a interesting note in one book, Drama generalilor romani 1944 - 1964 (Romanians generals drama) by Alesandru Dutu and Florica Dobre, editura Enciclopedica, 1997. At page 77, chapter about general Nicolae Ciuperca, it is written about the fact that this general entered in national resistance movement against communists. He joined Graiul Sangelui, one group led by Ion Vulcanescu, Nicolae Balaban and Victor Constantinescu in the spring of 1945. About this, Constantin Latea (later general, member in Nation Council for Totalirsm Studies) said in 1947 about the Brasov group led by Colonel Ion Toba.
Could be the same Ion Toba?

AS far as I know,Ion Toba was the father of Stefan Greceanu's wife.
Maiana Dragescu told a story about him escorting members of tThe White Squadron in Krimea.

Any link with Tudor Greceanu, the aviator?

Ion Toba was the father of Lia, the wife of Tudor (Dido) Greceanu, not Stefan (Baby) Greceanu.
You can find some informations about them also in "Escadrila Alba. o istorie subiectiva" by Daniel Focsa (2008). Mariana Dragescu and Stela Hutan participated to this adventure at Karasubasar, in Krimeea.

I made a mistake.
Stefan Greceanu died in an accident in Alberta Canada.

In the book it is stated that Ion Toba paid quite regular visits to Escadrila Albă when it was deployed in Crimeea and he knew some of the female-pilots from the squadron.
