Is that picture taken in Darste, on the outskirts of Brasov?

Ouch! I'm shivering just looking at the picture.

Going to the dentist is unpleasant enough even today, I can't even imagine how painful it must have been back in those days.

By the way, I think the forged metal wheel located by the foot of the officer in the center of the picture was used, with the help of a foot pedal, to spin the dental drill.

Could you imagine how unpleasant it was to have your teeth drilled with a drill spinning at such low speeds?

C-2 - you're a dentist, what do you think?

Well,I heard about ten years an interw. with a lady (who was then 90 something) and was a dentist in Arad in the 30's.
She said that a REAL men wouldn't ask for anesthesia.
Think about the poor hygine.
The same drill was in use for all.
Look at the dirty towel on the right chair.
Working standing ,is very dificult for the droctor.
The light is very poor.
Every chair had the drill.In order to spin it,you have to use the foot as operating an old sawing machine.
That's what the other two guys in uniform are doing.

These are absolutely fantastic photos. Not specially the war ones, but all the others from Scutari, Cattaro, the turkish women in Sarajevo or even Sara's Shop. It gives us another image of the War on the civilian side and what the areas really looked like 90 years ago.

Do you imagine what it was for the civilians. Have you noticed that at Elbassan's fair you almost don't see young men??

For Gen. Denes,
Quite interesting pictures. However, I prefer to restrict myself to those from Transylvania and Romania. Unfortunately, I do not know the Romanian translations for some of those towns (except Brasov, Fagaras and Predeal - I suppose one of them is Sibiu). I understand they are from the Austro-Hungarian press of those times.
1. Can you provide similar pictures from the German press (for other famous battles in 1916, such as those on the Bran-Campulung corridor, Olt River Valley, Jiu Valley, Arges-Neajlov, etc.)? Also Bucharest under occupation (1916-1918). This will show more clear what really happened on this front, before re-organization of the Romanian army in 1917 (battles at Marasti, Marasesti, Oituz). I suppose it must be a similar site in Germany, not only in Hungary.
2. Pictures taken by the French Military Mission led by Gen. Berthelot (1916-march 1918) will be of much help too.
