Ploesti: Low Level Strike, new book on Tidal Wave

Today I got my hands on Ploesti: Low Level Strike by Corneliu Nastase, Dan Melinte & Razvan Bujor.

The book is printed in an A4 landscape format, having the look of of an album. This look is backed up by the contents, which is extemely rich in photographs (many of which I haven't seen published before) and color profiles. I counted 28 regular profiles and another 4 jumbo size ones on special folded pages. The more important details are enlarged and each has a generous caption presenting the fate of the aircraft. In fact, that is its main purpouse: presenting the fate of the aircraft that fell on Romanian soil during Operation Tidal Wave, on both sides.

It also contains a compact text (in both Romanian and English), which presents the story of Tidal Wave and the relevant data of the operation's outcome and casualties. A very interesting piece (for me) is the map with locations of the crashes, as well as some new bits of information on particular events, but the modellers will most likely be interested in the profiles, details and particular story of each airplane. And this the book has plenty of.

I was impressed by the high quality paper and print and it's good IMO that Romanian military history publications are moving forwards from this point of view.

All in all, a very interesting work, for both scale model and aviation history enthusiasts, dedicated to all participants to the epic raid. Too bad it is only a limited edition.

Is the identity of the second and, perhaps, the third B-24 repaired and refit for flying status documented in photos and documents?

Thanks for the info and your kind offer.
This time I will stay only 4 days, which I will spend in Tg.Mures and surroundings. However, I might stay more during late July, so then I might find time to go to Bucharest, too. I am not sure, though. We'll see.
