I only now have seen this very interesting photo.
They belong to the 6th Dorobantzes Guard Regiment “Mihai Viteazul” and the photo was taken in the late 1930s. They are wearing the 1930 service/walking out uniform with opened collar tunic, shirt and tie, Guards belt and “Y” straps and the unique headgear of this unit - the black woolen hat carried on the traditional Romanian peasant style. This headgear was normally worn on the ceremonial uniform but it was also carried on winter. |

Hi Kepi.
Many thanks for the information, a neighbour of mine in Deva gave it to me, has he knows I am interested in military items, its quite small 6 X 6 cm and has some damage. I will ask him more about where he obtained it, but I am sure he said from his home village near Orastie. Kevin in Deva. This post has been edited by New Connaught Ranger on June 06, 2007 10:24 am |

It looks like they are wearing the Second version of the King Carol 2 Cypher insignia on their fur caps which would make it around 1932-1934 my guess. Also, they are not wearing their Guard Aguilettes. How come ? They identification for the 6th Dorobatzes Guard Regiment is correct.
