Hello all.
I've been lurking around here for some time and i have to thank you all for the great historical documents and stories I found here. I'm interested in aviation and to reincarnate some of the heroes i read about I also play flight simulators. In one od the games I play (IL-2 Sturmovik) one of the top skiners (person with great artistic skills that paints the exterior of the planes for us to use in the game ), offered to paint Traian Darjan's BF-109 G6 "Yellow 9" : To be able to create the paint scheme as close to the reality as posible, the gentlemen asked me if i could find some photos of this aircraft, since the profiles found on the web are not allways historically acurate. Since this is the best place to find info on Romanian WW2 aircraft and pilots, I'd like to ask you for some help finding some photos of Dirjan's plane. We just got a great Slovakia map and i couldn't think of a more apropriate Romanian aircraft skin to recreate the fights in those areas. Canon_UK, the artist that offered to make the skin did already a lot of top class Romanian BF-109 skins that can be found at: www.canons-skins.com Please help us get this one as historically acurate as possible. Thank you all. This post has been edited by Jaws on January 12, 2008 07:51 pm |

I'm not sure that you will find Darjan "yellow 9" pictures. The above color profile is based probably after Mr. Ion Taralunga painting(dated 1987) with the description of the fight in wich Darjan died. We don't know if Mr Ion Taralunga used a picture with Darjan plane or only used info from archiv. Below is the painting. Anyway most probably Darjan "yellow 9" should be with erlahaube canopy (Regensburg factory build series 166xxx). This post has been edited by Cantacuzino on January 13, 2008 03:56 pm |

C-no told you what you can expect the most.
Myself, I haven't seen either a real photo of 'Yellow 9'. As for the cockpit canopy, since the classic rectangular one and the so-called Erla Haube were interchangeable, one cannot draw a final conclusion unless a photo surfaces. Gen. Hello Sir and thank you.
I have a large print of that painting but is at my parents home back in Romania. I'm in Canada for few good years. I got it sometimes in 80's at one of those "stiinta si tehnica" competitions while I was a good kid in school. Was signed by Dumitru Prunariu and someone from the Magazin "Stiinta si Technica" (being part of the Jurry). Is sitting there together with my copy of "Inimi cit sa cuprinda cerul patriei" de Cornel Marandiuc. Do you have any info on the camo an specially the mottling on the side of the fuselage? How close to the real thing that is? Thank you very much. |

Hey Mitzule! Good to see you too.
I'm not home now i'm on the Laptop and i don't have much on this thing. just basic stuff. No games, No Photoshop. Soi i don't have skins here. I have on my gaming rig at home. But you can find all of them on his site. Eastern front BF-109 page has a lot of awsome skins you could use: http://www.canons-skins.com/bf109/eastern.html Don't forget to look in the Hurican folder too. He did a gorgeus Romanian Hurri Mk1. http://www.canons-skins.com/hurricane/hurri_vvs.htm. Now if we could bribe him to do some IAR-80/81's |

Looks like a picture of this aircraft is harder to find then i thought. May as well not exist at all.
Is there a description of this particular plane somewhere or some general guidelines that could be used in making the skin? Anything helps. Personal insignia, unit markings, kill markings(haven't seen any on "west front" aircraft). This post has been edited by Dénes on January 15, 2008 06:26 am |

In ARR documents, only 'Yellow 9' and the aircraft type are mentioned.

Most of the Bf109 G 6 used by 7/9 Vt in Czechoslovakia are from the batch received from Germany in summer '44. Some of them have the 7Vt late emblem (7 in a tricolor shield) on the cowling engine. Most of them are with Erla haube cockpit. The cockades are covering the old markings (german crosses or king Michael crosses). The number on fuselage is placed before cockade and could be yellow, blue or red (squadron color). White paint on wing tips (under and upper) and fuselage band. The 109 cammo colors are standard german RLM's for the period (summer '44). Below a picture with 7/9Vt planes in Czechoslovakia. Source D.M. coll. |

As for 'Yellow 3', this is the version of it I made for the sim Aces High. Was difficult only having one side of the aircraft photographed, but at least that photo does exist. Unfortunately theres a lot of conjecture on the paint schemes and colors between sources.
But if Denes and C-no both say that there isn't a photo and that profile is as accurate as we can hope for, I'd go with their judgement. They never steered me wrong yet. This post has been edited by Treize on January 16, 2008 03:53 am |

Could it be 166026 (as I don't have any G-6 with 166926)? If so, it was 7 Red, so not Dârjan's mount. Gen. Dénes This post has been edited by Dénes on January 16, 2008 06:32 am |
