3 waves of bombers attacked during daylight in what was to become the heaviest air raid on Timisoara. It was apparently conducted by bomber aircraft from the 15th AF on july 3rd 1944.
The aim was to destroy the rail yard and disrupt rail traffic. according to my father, who was an eyewitness, the rail yard and the surroundings were heavily hit both by incendiary and high explosive bombs resulting in the complete destruction of the "Prochaska" mill (site of the current "Elba" factory) and some residential buildings located in the neighborhoods around the rail yard. the rail yard building was also heavily hit and the tracks in the proximity were destroyed. according to my father, no engine was hit as they left the city promptly at the earliest warning. does anyone have more detailed data on number of aircraft involved, quantity of bombs dropped, number of casualties and such? |

thank you, very much like what i was looking for.
my father remembers only weak AA fire, also there were no aircrafts for air defence in proximity. so probably no B-24 was shot down. any infos on AA defence? the "agenda" link i found myself too some time before, however as soon I read "B-29" I sort of lost interest in the jurnalists attempt. |

Indeed the US bomber crews reported weak AA fire and no plane shot down or damaged in this attack. |
