Does anyone know details about the incident involving Me 109 G No. 334 (7 yellow or white; i can't figure exctly wat was the marking's colour)?
All I can tell from the picture bellow is that incident obviously took place after August 23rd 1944. Can anyone post more details about this? |

There is already a thread mentioning this post-war accident (you have already posted there) :

Well if I made the mistake and started this topic, let me post the other two pictures I have with this incident.
This way, the whole set of 5 pictures (two boght by Cantacuzino and the rest by me) that was available for sale in an antique shop from Bucharest can be seen on this forum. Top front view of the crashed airplane. Front underside view |

Actually, I believe the aircraft started to skid on its side following a failed emergency landing, then hit a tree with the starboard wing (see damage on the wing's leading edge), then turned 90 deg., then this tree finally stopped the slowly skidding plane.

It is most likely that the pilot attempted to belly-land the plane on the road and the plane skidded until it clipped the tree with the wing, whereby it spun.

On the second photo I see a downed tree. That might be the culprit for the damage visible on the wing leading edge, or even for the entire port wing that had shred off.

Maybe offtopic, but ....does anyone know where there might be an intact, possibly operational, ME109 on view? ANYWHERE??? I've never seen one. I'm reading "I flew for the Fuhrer" by Hauptmann Heinz Knoke (ME109 ace), and after hearing him talk about the Me A/C vs Spitfires (which I have seen) and B-17's (ditto), I HAVE to see one of the former. Is there an air museum in Ro? The one in England (near Stonehenge) has only Spits, Hurricanes, etc (and is kind of tracky, at that). The ones here have B-17's, B-25's, even a MIG 15, but no ME's
thanks in advance. cnfb |

An intact G2 one, but I think not operational (why operational, do you wana make a tour ) you may see in Belgrade, at the Yougoslav Aeronautical Museum. I just was there (excelent btw). Here you can see some 29 photos made by myself. http://www.cartula.net/modules/xcgal/thumb...s.php?album=650 This post has been edited by MaxFax on July 23, 2007 07:31 am |

Interestingly, that Gustav was originally delivered to Bulgaria and ended up in Yugoslavia after the war. BTW, there are Bf 109s exhibited in various museums in the USA, too. Gen. Dénes This post has been edited by Dénes on July 21, 2007 06:59 am |

I admit I was so preocupated to shot pictures, I didn't look careful enough to the written material next to the plane. Maybe there are some explenations ...

My advice is to pay a visit to the museum in Munich, which has a huge collection of German aircraft (including a Ju-52 in which one can climb in) and a lot of other technical exhibits. It's very interesting. |

http://109lair.hobbyvista.com/home.html go to "Walkarounds" and you will see some preserved (and not so preserved ) 109s.
Also, http://www.messerschmitt-bf109.de/index-1024.php has a lot of useful info about airframes on display along with plenty of photos. If you can make it to London, there is a beautiful G2 "Black 6" in the RAf Museum in Hendon. http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/london/collect...aircraft_id=169 HTH Radu This post has been edited by Radub on July 21, 2007 08:44 pm |

No doubt the Munich museum is a very strong and good one. I must for every body. But it's a little bit far. Belgrade is mooore close ! And hey, they have also a Ju-52 ! Ok, you can't climb in it, but you can get as close you want. PS: great links Radu. Thanks! This post has been edited by MaxFax on July 21, 2007 01:48 pm |
