Indeed, there is another Li-2, at Buzias, also serving as a cafe/restaurant
...of course the Aviation museum has none - after all we live in Romania, and destroying history is one of our best skills http://www.cartula.ro/forum/index.php?s=&s...indpost&p=46390 This post has been edited by Zapacitu on November 18, 2007 10:38 am |

Hallo Zapacitu,
And I for one would not like to see either of the two planes, located here in Western Romania dragged off to an Aviation Museum in Bucharest for re-location, far too many items are located there, and hardly any military items exist this side. I cant recall seeing any public military monument, (i.e. cannon, guns, tanks, etc. . . etc...) in public areas (apart from a cannon on a bridge in Targu Jiu) while driving around the Western area of Romania, no information is available to say if the "military" museum in Timisoara, is open to the public, in fact just how many items of military equipment are accessible to the public around the country maybe we should start a list? Targu Jiu: I cannon located on a Bridge. Timisoara: 2 Artillery pieces located outside the Military Club. Kevin in Deva |

Kevin, I got your point - I myself wouldn't mind seeing them PRESERVED on the spot, but not vandalised in the way they are - with metal sheets in place of the plexiglas, with smokestacks cut out in the airframe,...
Suppose somebody would truley restore them and let them in the open somewhere, to be seen - do you know what would happen than? Go to Caransebes and see what they did to the MiG-15 exposed near the local swimming pool ("strand") Or go to Ianca and see another MiG-15 which had to be put on a rig a few meters high so that vandals wouldn't destroy it - like they did with the first MiG put in the town That's the real reason why you don't see any piece of machinery preserved in the open - any removable parts would disappear in no time. Let's not forget the dark-skinned folks which are very fond of aluminium, copper,... |
