That particular airplane was German property, not Rumanian, on loan to the Rumanians for front use. It was flown to Cyprus by a defector.

As far as we know,
the airplane was flown to Cyprus, not Cretye, by a Romanian pilot. When he desrted, the Americans and British already had many Ju-88s. No way were the Germans 50 years ahead... However, the retaking of this airplane would be a great thing. But who would see to it? The Egytians starteda campaign to retake their treasures plundered by different states. Here we are 50 years behind. [translated by admin] This post has been edited by Victor on September 20, 2005 05:50 pm |

I wonder why he reacted like that I would also like to see that plane here but I can think of a few reasons why it shouldn't either.. also what you did is not the right approach. This post has been edited by D13-th_Mytzu on September 19, 2005 09:23 pm |

Let's take Dan Stoian, hide somewhere in the museum, till dark.
Start teh eangines, and fly back! In the States lives also Craciun Salajan, who flew with Stoian the 88. He can help too. |

I don't think the Daytona museum is willing to sell the plane. Better ideea it'an exchange ( if it's posible) with MIG's 21,23 & 29 , IAR 93 and so on ( from romanian air force ) wich anyway we scrap them from time to time. But C2 ideea is not bad at all G-ral Dan Stoian it's still capable to fly the plane and will not hear the warning radio from the coast guard and also G-ral Dicezare could help providing the escort ( with a bf-109 from the same museum). I remember one movie ( Iron Eagle III) with similar subject. This post has been edited by Cantacuzino on September 20, 2005 05:56 am |

Well, lets think a little: if US hadn't preserved that plane in a museum, today we wouldn't have any Ju88 left.
If US would have sent this plane to Romania and lets wrongly assume that it was kept in a museum all this time and not scraped like ALL other romanian ww2 planes, it would be in the exact shape of the other newer planes kept at the air force museum. I would say US did us a favour by keeping that Ju88 the way they did. Even now if we get it back it would be at the plane's disadvantage. First we should have a proper Aviation Museum then you could consider bringing in more planes. You want to bring that plane here so it will just rott ? Why ? That plane does not belong to us anymore, it was a spoil of war and it belongs to those who got it during the war. One more thing: we DID NOT pay for all the planes we had. Some of the german equipment was only landed by the germans to the romanian military. Aparently - as others on this forum already said - that plane was not payed for. This is the case with the Hs129 units which flew german planes landed by them to our Air Force, romanians had no right over those planes - let me give you a little example: when adj. Dumitru Marinescu crashlanded his Hs129 near his home, he was sent to the court martial by an idiot officer from his group (who's arse he saved some time ago) finally the court got to the conclusion that the only thing they could accuse him was dammaging the plane, but since the plane did not belong to romanian air force, the germans had to forward a complaint. Marinescu was liked by german officers so instead of forwarding a complaint they asked the romanians to drop charges saying that it was a german plane and they have no wish to punish the pilot who dammaged their plane. So Marinescu walked away from the incident without being punished. |

C-2 and Cantacuzino - include in your list some of the D-13th team to steal some other fighters, and to join the escort! Some ohters can bring down the military computer network... Hey, let's contact a movie director too!

Not all of them were german propriety, for ex the me110 we had, were bought in petrol from the germans, but we don't know the case of the ju88...
I agree the romanian aviation museum is a wrek, and i think there many other ways we can promote the aviation history in Romania if we really whant to. |
