Hello guys! This is my first message here!
First of all, my english is very bad. Today, I bought this helmet from Iasi-Romania for only 20 lei. I want to know if it is original. Can you give me more detail about this helmet (name, year of production etc.)? This post has been edited by buha on February 07, 2010 01:32 pm |

It's in poor shape.
It must be original. |

It is the m42 model, with straight edge. This model was in use since 1942, along with the other 2 models, m40 and m35. Your helmet look to have been used either in agricultural (or flower pot, bird bowl, etc.) purposes or even better to say that it was ripped of a cross or monument of some kind, judging by the holes in the top of it. "sifter" And it really looks like one. Probably a gravemarker. But it can be cleaned nicely. Good catch for 20 leones...

Thanks!
It must have a number stamped inside? Give me some links about restoring this helmet. This post has been edited by buha on February 08, 2010 06:21 pm |

It should be a stamp inside the skirt. Look at the back of the neck, actually exactly where is the lower stain or whatever that is.... Also try on the inner right side of the skirt. You can restore it quite nice I reckon. Just fill the holes with special plaster or fiber-glass, sand-paper it, etc. Try with google: "german helmets restoration techniques", and similar combinations. |

I am in the process of restoring a WW2 Hungarian helmet for display purposes,
it was badly cracked, so I used a commercial Car body filler (Kit) to fill the damaged areas after first sanding down and removing all the rust inside and out. The kit then is sanded smooth on the out side and inside, a primer paint is then applied and then you can add a preffered paint scheme (but avoid Gloss - Shiny paint). It has just had a base green matt paint applied on the outside and I will be spraying an apple green final paint scheme to finish it. As I said its for display, it will be going to a friend as a gift. Kevin in Deva. |
