Actually I think the one with stick in mouth and tail up is Mannerheim. Mebbe the last one is just an 'extra' smile.gif

Batika,you probably wright.Japan could not apear because Ussr had a peace treaty with it and they would not risc spoiling relations.As you know,sometimes Stalin personaly was ordering caricatures,teling them how it should look.

If I were to guess, I'd say Japan because they didn't participate in Hitler's war on the Soviet Union. The dog in the caricature is watching from a distance, seemingly interested but not joining in the "feast".

The average Soviet citizen reading the magazine should understand it as Japan.
The fact that the dog looking from beyond horizon does not have slanted eyes, and no any other marks (hat, medals, uniform) to be recongnized, was a precaution against a possible complaint from Japan's embassy. It allowed a denial, in case of a Japanese protest.
The color of the skin of that dog is very... Japanese. cool.gif Because the artist insisted on mustache, and that "dog" has a lean face, I would say it was meant to remind of Hideki Tojo.
