The medal of labor was established in 1949 and awarded until the fall of communism in 1989. Since labor was central in the communist doctrine, this medal was considered as the basic award. Every member of the communist party could expect to receive one of these before any other award. It was awarded to people from every domain, including the military.
Like many other Romanian communist awards, it has two types: RPR (Romanian Popular Republic) and RSR (Romanian Socialist Republic, after 1966). I have three diferent cases for these medals, but i have seen several more. This one is a RPR case, probably the oldest of them: This post has been edited by dragos03 on November 08, 2005 11:26 pm |

This is a very interesting case. The medal inside is a RSR type. The case is identical with the previous one, except the fact the RPR letters were erased. Probably they didn't have time to manufacture new cases.
Detail with the erased letters: This post has been edited by dragos03 on November 08, 2005 11:25 pm |

A case from my collection which is similar to the first case above.
This is also an RPR example, however the words MEDALIA MUNCII are much nearer to the lower edge of the case. Also the side edges and lower edge of the case lid have been highlighted with a gold colour, very similar to the Mihai I cases. I think this type would not have been in use for any length of time - too many regal overtones. |

Can you put some more pictures. I think it's a post 1947 box, wich has applied on the top the front of a comunist box. |

Thanks for the pictures, It's 100% pre 1947 box. I have some boxes like this one in my colection but with out the comunist adding.
