The scan of the postcard below (from my collection) shows the barracks at Halchiu. The postcard is Number 206 from a series published by Heinr. Gust of Kronstadt (now Brasov). It is undated and not posted but it has the look of a late 1920's or early 1930's card to me. What is your interest in these barracks? Are they still in existence? Alan in Bradford. |

thanks for your post.i already had this post card in original.yes tha barracks still exist bur they are in a very poor condition. i whant to write an article for a local paper and i need some informations about romanian army period of this barracks.
I know that after the WWI there was a cavalery regiment, during WW II a transmision regiment and posible a POW/jail for comunist partizans, and afte WWII was used by Vanatori de Munte. after 1989 it was abandoned, a german lady buy the bilding intended to transorm them into a place for old people but this remain only an intention. any other infos are welcomed. Is it possible you may be able to provide me with an image/photo of the barracks as they are now, please? I like to try and contrast the old postcards with a modern day image if at all possible. A view of Romania "then & now" as it were. Regards - Alan in Bradford |
