Is it a Laffly Or is it Czech ?
I have not heard about French trucks in Romanian use so far, so I would be very interested. Was it used as Command vehicle in the R-35 Regiment ?

Hmm, the photo was taken from this page, from the R-35 section, which I neglected to write.

However, a little search on the web gave:

A decent picture of one Laffly as carrier for a howitzer gives (I guess this one was used in North Africa):



Looks very much like a Laffly, so I guess they were delivered alongside with the R-35's. The R-35's did not prove to be adequate for the Eastern Front and the demands of modern tank warfare, but what happened to the trucks after August 41 ? ? ?

good. or bad, they are so far not included in the Romanian OOB for Combat Leader that I did, as I had never heard about them.

I don't have any reference on this truck, but indeed it looks identical with the pictures you have found. They could have been built at the Ford factory in Bucharest.

I think this cars next R-35 in this photo are "laffly/Hotchkiss S20L"
length 5.35m,wide 2.m, weight3.9t,power688hp.

Surely 688hp is a typo? I doubt it could be the cc of the engine, or the power in kw. Any idea where I could find more data about this truck? I'm also curious when the Romanians got them, and how long they were used.

Anyone know what the trucks in the background are? The flat-fronted ones look like Renaults (AHN?).

I think those are vans not trucks (all enclosed cabin, hard top). On the other hand, the truck behind the second row of tanks seems to be a Ford.

Hello Cantacuzino. I had the same impression, at a first view. But at a closer look, I don’t think so. If you copy and magnify the photo with the 2nd Tank regiment (which I did) and take a look at the vehicle from the right side, behind the last line of tanks (from the viewer’s perspective) you’ll notice that it’s an all enclose car body and the back side top is at the same level with the top of the cabin, unlike in the case of the Italian truck. It also looks like a hard-top and not a tarpaulin (“prelata” in Romanian); and apparently on the car’s left side (again from the viewer’s perspective) there is an open gliding door - another argument that the vehicle is a van.

So I would suggest that those vehicles (belonging to the 2nd Tank regiment) were either different versions of the truck presented by Cantacuzino (vans) or different vehicles, perhaps French ones as someone has indicated.

Well, always opinions.
It is mine that the little French personnel carrier is a Laffly S15T.
The truck in the middle behind the line of tanks is definitely a Ford but I think maybe a German one, not Romanian as it has the one piece windscreen.
The line of trucks in the back on the right I cannot quite identify.
A sure guess would be either French or Italian. I lean towards some model of Fiat but that is a guess. When I try to blow up the photo, it fragments badly before I can get a clear view. But then, I do not have a very good photo editing program. If someone can blow it up and not lose detail, maybe we can finish it off.

Now, the Ford has become a Chevrolet and I am not sure where it came from.

The line of trucks in the back line are definitely from Italy and I am now thinking possibly Lancia.

I have not the time tonight to go further with this one but will try to start again another day to get a better identification.
