I have an original photo that shows a German fighter pilot with Rumanian comrades, probably in early 1941.
Can anyone identify the pilots? To me, the one at left appears to be Dan Scurtu. Is 'Bâzu' Cantacuzino next to him? Gen. Dénes This post has been edited by Dénes on March 24, 2007 05:10 pm |

100% Dan Scurtu.
About Bazu-posib. Why won't you send the photo to Dicesare? He'll reconize them all... |

See!
Dicesare talked about him. He was sort of an instructor for GR 7. |

Do you know which fighter type(s) did he fly? I don't think he was a Messerschmitt pilot, but have to check my lists.
By any chance, did his logbook (carnet de zbor) survive? Gen. Dénes |

i think he flew an IAR-38,80 or 81 and he didn't tell me anything of any logbook before he died... I just found out that he faught in '42 in Stalingrad under the GAL. This post has been edited by Itza on April 23, 2007 10:09 am |

Try to ask his relatives about the Carnet de Zbor. It's an essential piece of document.
By the way, I could not find an airman with that name in any of my (incomplete) ARR personnel lists. Gen. Dénes |

Dear Denes Barnad,
The German officer is speaking with Cpt.av. Alexandru Manoliu (my father) during a visit of a Romanian delegation to the Heinkel Werke in Rostock in 1939. I have already sent several pictures taken during that visit to Victor Nitu. The place and date are stamped by Heinkel Werke on the back of a couple of those pictures. Victor placed one of them in the biography of A.M. on the pilot's page. Friendly yours, Radu Manoliu |
