Hello !

Could somebody tell what filler weight have the ww2 mortar shells ?
Because it's important to know that for explosion results calculations and therefore for armor penetration values. Everywhere I found only the weight of projectiles and not filler ones. And to make the confusion even great I see that in ww2 the romanian mortars have 2 different shells: hight explosive and high capacities for the same caliber !??
Could you make some light here ?

Best regards,

Leo.

The nearest Ive found so far, re ammunition for the German 8cm Granatwerfer 34

from

http://www.geocities.com/Augusta/8172/panz...nzerfaust10.htm

the standard Wurfgranate 34 mortar round that weighed 3.5kg incl. 550g of explosives.

The Wurfgranate 40, also called "lange Wurfgranate was a much larger round with a length of 56.4cm and increased explosive charge of almost 5kg. Because the total weight of the round was 7.5kg

From the technical manual of 81.4 mm Brandt mortar:

"Aruncatorul trage doua categorii de proiectile de efect:
- exploziv, de fonta otelita (F.A.) in greutate de 3,300 kg;

The effects of the 3.3kg shell are comparable with the 75mm artillery shell. The effects of the high capacity 6.8kg shell are comparable with the 100/105mm artillery shells.
