Last week-end, on the 17th and 18th of May, 2008, the annual show of the Irish Model Soldier Society was held in the Coach House of the Dublin Castle. This was the 50th anniversary of the show and a number of the original founding members of the club were honoured with Lifetime Membership awards. Among them was Mr. Glenn Thompson. For this occasion, he wore the uniform of the Romanian Mihai Viteazul Guard Unit. I understand that Glenn received the uniform with the help of his good Romanian friend also known to us here as Kepi. Maybe Horia can tell us more about it. (Glenn was unhappy with the feather - it was supposed to be white, but that was a quick improvisation using a grey egret feather) The uniform created a stir and he was an impressive sight, much appreciated by all. Other uniforms were present also - (US Civil War and Roman reenactors had stands alongside the Irish Army stand)
In the meantime, here are some pictures for you.

F. Glenn Thompson is a great specialist on ceremonial Guard uniforms of the world and has a special interest on the Romanian Royal Army of 19th and 20th centuries.

In May 2005 he visited Romania with his wife, Iris. On that occasion, the president of “6 Dorobantzes” Association promoted F. Glenn Thompson to the rank of honorary Colonel of the 6th Guard Dorobantzes Regiment “Mihai Viteazul” for his interest on Romanian military history. He also offered him a M. 1930 gala uniform of that unit and the Association medal "Traditie Militara". smile.gif
