Dug up shell

About 10 years ago near Craiova (Romania) where we have a terrain used for agriculture I was helping my grandfather to dig holes for the poles of a hut he was planning to raise there, when suddenly I hit in something hard which sounded like metal. I've stopped digging and with my hands I started to clear the object. It was a shell of a russian projectile who had been fired during WWII it is marker whith G(the kirilic mark) 41 (goda = year). It is in a good condition and these days i'll take a picture of it and put it on this forum.
In my opinion it is an anti aircraft shell because in that area my grandfather told me it was an anti aircraft battery which protected Craiova from aerial attaks, but here I hope somebody will help me with a correct identification.

If it is an anti-Aircraft shell then its very possibly still has its explosive content inside

as they were designed to explode at a set height to damage aircraft,

rather than just a solid piece of metal (like and anti-tank round).

and must be considered to be dangerous, even 53 years after WW2

ended this still has the potential to do what it was designed to do. KILL!

A picture would be needed to identify the shell and until it is identified

I suggest it is removed very carefully to a safe place,

well away from the house and people.

Whether the Russians were in that area or not has nothing to do

with the fact that the item could be of Russian manufacture

and still has a great potential to be dangerous.

In the west each year in Belgium and France a number of people are being killed

by fooling around with shells and projectiles mainly from the WW1 period.

The Belgian and French military have at least one member of their bomb disposal

units killed or seriously wounded handling this stuff each year as well.

All ordnance found in the ground should be viewed as being dangerous and left alone.

To be handled by the relevant authorities.

I served over 21 years in the military

and would not consider picking any of these objects up.
