If you remember there was a similar section of road on the Bucharest - Pitesti highway back in the communist times and a few years afterwards. smile.gif

It is not a new/original idea. The Germans thought of it during WW2, but even they had a problem with the concept because on motorways the two opposing lanes of traffic are separated by a centre divider.

About voting, where is Eurofighter?

Right where it has always been. laugh.gif
It is too expensive to be considered. The British, the Germans and the Italians are reducing the size of their orders because it is waaaay to expensive. It was always a pipedream for the RoAF and never a contender with any real chances.
Radu

not reducing; reduced. the german order modification from originally 250 to 180 aircraft is 11 years old. (Oct. 8th 1997).

Alenia - a step closer to convincing Romania to select Eurofighter

Alenia Aeronautica, a member of Italy’s Finmeccanica Group, has signed yesterday an agreement with Aerostar Bacau. According to the agreement, the two companies will collaborate provided Romania selects the Eurofighter Typhoon.

So in this year of economic crisis will the long rumored purchase of new fighter planes go forward or will it be postponed some more? The subject seems to have vanished from the media's attention and there are no new official statements on this issue either.

Let's wait and see the budged of MoD for 2009. I think the future of RoAF is grim: we will ask for NATO members for Air Policing for at least 2-3 years. Maybe we will buy in 2014-2015 F35 A and we will be the only country in the world to make transition from 3rd generation aicraft to the 5th generation. biggrin.gif

The topic has been going on the forum for more than 5 years. Chances are it will go on for at least another 5.

What happened to the MiG-29s? Are they still on storage? Maybe an overhauling and a modernization would be much more appropriate for the current financial situation.

Experience (in evert aspect of life) tells us that a patch on something old will, in the long run, end up costing more than a new and expensive thing.

This crisis may be a blessing in disguise. With so many companies desperate to bring in some funds and keep their business going, all of a sudden this has become a "buyers' market". This usually brings down prices.

I think the best option would be the SAAB
My opinion is based on the fact that SAAB will have a much better product support than any ex-soviet or even American or European offer.
MIG 29 is out of question, Mig bureau has a lot of problems and at the moment and even Russia considers that Mig29 and its variants are less developed than its SUKHOI bureau fighters.
Su 27 has a poor record for customer support and its contract with Malaysia is in trouble due to that
F16 offered for Romania will be second hand aircraft which should be upgraded overhauled with additional costs by Israeli companies so the final price will be probably higher and the life span will be shorter.
Mirage hm what to say usually are acquired by countries (Taiwan; Egypt; India) which can not access USA built aircraft and usually the french include some bonuses smile.gif.

Since we are dreaming, my personal wish would be a Naboo N-1 or a Colonial Viper Mk.VII. laugh.gif

As a friend of mine used to say, "They don't have two cents to rub together, but they dream of Ferraris". biggrin.gif
