If we get them for free and we pay their modernisation it`s ok both for us and for US. But if we agree to buy 10 years later F-35 then we are dooing a bad business. Also for sure F-35 will not come with offset, at least in this deal...

The USAF F-16s which will soon be available for sale are only Block 25.
There's no way in hell they are going to retire Block 50/52 and 40/42.

But in my opinion more important than this is what weapons we'll get (and how many), and the most crucial factor, how many flight hours will our pilots get.

There is absolutely no point in buying F-16s - or any other fighter - if they'll get as few hours as they do now.

This information still could be just gossip. Did you found something from other sources?

I'm sorry Radu, but isn't it obvious why?
The US will soon retire from service some 100+ F-16, which will be available for sale trough FMS - or if noone wants them, stored at AMARC. They are not going to retire their newest versions (Block 40 and 50). We are not Israel during Yom Kippur, we won't get the latest fighters drawn overnight from first-line combat units.

If you were the manager of a Taxi company and had to reduce the car numbers, what would you sell - the few old and worn-out Dacia Solenza or the newer Logan and Sandero? laugh.gif

Besides, in the DSCA notification regarding the possible sale of 48 F-16 to Romania (half new, half used) the used ones were Block 25 - because these will be the newest second-hand birds available. Until not so long ago, only Block 15 were available for export if the customer wanted used birds (see recent F-16 aquisitions/leases by Portugal, Jordan, Italy)

No decision taken in CSAT regarding the type. In order to make a final decision, we are still waiting for info regarding "F-16 of a certain type". wink.gif
It is taken in consideration an aircraft wich can make the transition to the F-35.

Sounds like more of nothing; at some point makes you wonder just how long it takes to get the full specifications and test all 5 fighters types! mad.gif It seems we are no closer to picking a fighter. Its time to make chioce already! sad.gif

Great idea Logans for Gripens, I don't think the swedes would go for it. sad.gif However maybe some IAR-330M's and IAR-99's would do the trick? cool.gif

His approach. Our government has sent us administration, at the end of iulie, a request by the offer expressing interest in the Official 24 planes F-16 already in use. After almost three years of beating up on the spot, Romania, finally first concrete move to purchase multirol aircraft.
Given the official premise economic crisis, the Defense Ministry is about to abandon the purchase of aircraft Nov (whose cost would be raised to nearly 4 billion dollars), orientandu- is the second-solution, eight times cheaper.
At the end of July, the government has sent me an ad Ni us stratiei a request to offer (formally known as "letter oh request"), the official expressing interest in buying the planes F-16 IN USE, produced by the American company on Martin, according to a document entered into possession Evenimentul zilei ".
The hearings in the parliamentary committees on defense, des fasurate Miercuri, economy minister, Michael object, claimed that still have equal opportunities all five companies which have expressed interest to deliver planes multirol Romania (Boeing, on Martin, exceeding the EADS and dassault), but the request of the offer was sent only by Washington and specify clearly that Romania was interested in the F-16 in use.
The document quoted, confirmed the MApN for "evenimentul zilei", Executive suggest several schemes to purchase, but sources close to the negotiations said that option is the most likely is that 24 planes, with a price estimated unofficially to 20.7 million dollars each.
The press office said MApN, on Monday for "evenimentul zilei", the document "transmiterea was made in accordance with provisions of the Agreement between government and the US Government on economic assistance programs, technical and in related areas, ratified by the Decree No 25 of 31.7.1996. The letter type «letter oh request» is a specific procedure, used only in relation to the US government.
US ambassador: F-16, step intermediary to F-35 according to sources from the Defense Ministry, planes F-16, used already in its of military operations would still have a lifetime of another 10 years the Romanian side found it convenient, with so much as Romania remains interested in further and by plane from generation to fifth, F-35, manufactured by on Martin to be placed on the international market after 2020.
Tariceanu would have gone on hand grippen the big loser of direction current administration in Bucharest is company Swedish exceeding the manufacturer plane jas 39 grippen. Sources remained on the books alongside Martin during Tariceanu's government. A memorandum secret of my nisterului defense, approved in September 2008 by Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu and published in noiembrie 2008 of Evenimentul Zilei "specifying that there are two versions reliable of acquisition: F-16 and grippen.
backgrounds of 2008 with all that Romania expresses interest now directly for the planes F-16 in use, the institutions of the Washington procedurali were the first steps towards this version yet of last year.

Ok, if this article is currect it looks like we have to settle for 24 used F-16C/D Block 25/32. Then pray that in 2020 we can buy 24 F-35A's! This is the deal we have waited a decade for! sad.gif In the late 90's we offered 48+ F-16A/B Block 10/15 free of charge, instead we built 114 Mig-21 LancerR's. A few years ago we offered 24 to 48 ex-isreali F-16A/B Netz for 150 to 300 million. Now we pay 20.7 million per plane, for 24 worn-out F-16's C/D; which comes to about 500 million total. How is this a fair deal? Vietnam just got 12 new Sukhoi Su-30MK2V's for only 500 million! Lets call Russia and get some Su-30's!!! smile.gif Or lets call Isreali and get those F-16 A/B Netz! cool.gif

Thank You

wink wink nudge nudge, eh?
Evenimentul Zilei implies that there is something fishy going on there.
If Romania is buying "second hand F16s from America", then stop and think for one second: who, can sell "second hand F16s" in America? Yes, you guessed right! The United States Air Force. The USAF is part of the Department of Defence. The Department of Defence is part of the American Government. So, Romania wrote to the American Government asking the American Government to purchase something that belongs to the American Government and can be sold only by the American Government. So, there is nothing "special" about writing to the American Covernment.
