Heh! If that was the "only" problem with Mr. Vlădescu... he'd be a good Finance Minister. I suspect the F16's will remain the designed target, if not later this year, than in 2011. As said again, we'll just have to wait and see,  -------------------- M

 it will be concluded with the successfull end of the affair "cand o face plopu' pere" or one day after the release of "duke nukem forever", whichever happens first. the quest for the romanian air force modernization appears to be even more of a vaporware project than "comanche".  |

... and it seems to be the longest thread on this forum - perhaps the most "debated" subject as well! I still think that - before I retire - Romania will get a new fighter! Oh, scratch "new" and replace it with "some other". BTW, I'd have said that about Starcraft II and "flying pigs"!  PS: no, it won't ever be concluded, because even after the new junk will arrive, there will always be some who'd think we could've done better! The story about the salt block (drobul de sare) is Romanian, as well! -------------------- M

It seems that at the moment we won`t have second hand F16s either.

A new message from american side says that we remain friends even if we don`t buy the F-16s. Is some change of plans going on? Maybe we don`t buy anything at the moment, or we we will buy something we can pay later?  |

Saudi Arabia bought Typhoons and is asembling some of them localy. And europeans will put on them whatever they want. So why botter with F-15 with reduced capability?
Some kind of payoff?... |

IFV: MLI-84 24 SPG: 6 2S1 and 18 based on MLI chassis and this is really interesting: 25 SU-100 still in use. Vintage stuff. RIP for the pilots and the tank driver that died last week.
