It looks like a captured Austro-Hungarian airplane. A Hansa-Brandenburg, perhaps? Is anything visible on the fuselage? Gen. Dénes This post has been edited by Dénes on September 29, 2008 08:41 pm |

A very interesting picture Is the pilot named? the center medal is a British W.W. 1 Military Medal, one of only 103 awarded to Romania in W.W. 1. Here is one of them, I obtained recently at the Collectors meeting in Brasov. The ribbon on mine has had the red dye run into the original white stripes, but is 100% original to the item. Yes, The foto is named on the back - Alexandru Georgescu, the one who died alongside Stalpeanu and Papastopol. Interesting, the date of death is given on the back as 12.09.1921... Al |

So Alexandru Georgescu received his medals as an Infantry, Cavalry, or Artillery officer? Do you know which?? I see he has 6 battle-bars on his Romanian Cross of War. Kevin in Deva |

Kevin,
I have no info right now, but tonight I will scan the pic at the best resolution possible. Perhaps I can squeeze a better image of his chest, and the battle bars in question. Cheers, Al |

Hallo Alexei2102 many thanks, I notice he is not wearing the Romanian Victory Medal for WW1 perhaps not issued the official one before he died, or did not purchase the unofficial variation? Do you know where in Romania he came from? Kevin in Deva. |
