the duel between Zaitsev and Konig may be just propaganda. i believe that most of you have seen Enemy at the gates. well, zaitsev was not as pretty at Jude Law, that is for sure. i have a picture of him and he is quite....unheroic. however, it is a proove once again that a person who uses his rifle to hunt for food or defend himself in a mountaineous area is far more trained than any sniper school cadet. at least that was the case 50 years ago. i have also heard that Major akonig was not mj Konig, but Major Thorvald!!! just a name difference, i do not know why the two versions circulate.
about that sniper shot in afghanistan, that is just unbelievable!!!! respect for that guy. the link does not work though, if you can post a copy of the article, please do. thanks |

Heinz Thorwald was the head of the German sniper school.I think in Zussen(or something like this).
I see no real importance to a sniper in a build up area, where distances are between cm and 100m. A smg is much more eficient :smg: |

if you see the movie you will see that mj Konig was the head of the sniperschool in Zossen. maybe they used another name not to offend anyone. i do not know. and about distances, i do not know the quality of the sniper lenses. in the movie, Zaitsev shoots a telephone line from 165 metres. i dont know if that is something or not

How does a figter or a bomber pilot feals after a kill?
You get used to it because that's war. For a sniper it's much easier, because if he's smart ,after pulling the triger he wont be looking to see the result :!: In ww1,Manfred Von Riechthoffen, when started thinking about his victims he got into a depresion and got killed soon after. |

There are two versions, and we'll never know the truth..
One that a pilot attacked him from behind and shoot him down.(not so realistic, sinceVR used to look every few seconds to his back). The second version is that he was killed by Australin AA.More acurate since he was found with a single bullet in his hart. Anyway he was burriede with all military honours by the RAF ,and in all the pubs a glass was lift in his honour. A picture of his grave was sent by a special plane to the Germans. Those were other times... |

Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen was shot down as he flew over the trenches in pursuit of Wilfrid May (Canadian) on 21 April 1918. Although Arthur Brown (also Canadian) was officially credited with the victory, evidence suggests that Richthofen was hit by a single bullet fired from a machine gun in the trenches. He was indeed buried in France with full military honors, but his body was later exhumed and reburied in the family cemetery at Wiesbaden.

Not that easy... he has to look if he wants to confirm a kill. I would say it is even harder, because you get to see the face of the man you're going to kill. You'll have something to haunt you for the rest of your life. In the airforce the subconcious perceives it as shooting against the machine, not the pilot. |

Carol I is right. you have to make sure that the man is dead, sepecially if he is another sniper. if not, he may shoot you afterwards and i believe he wouldn't mind to see your head blown off.
another question. i keep hearing everywhere about the DRAGUNOV sniper rifle. (see Project IGI, MAX PAYNE2. etc, movies....) and i wonder , is it that good? i have seen the exact replica at the EXPOMIL but it was manufactured by CUGIR i think. what is the difference, if any... |
