Hello,
I got this helmet from someone, and I was wandering if the badge is original. I know for sure the helmet is original, its got the German liner with the German chin strap and only one coat of paint, that shows that this helmet was not used after the war. let me know what you think about the badge Dragos |

Badge and helmet are original. It is typical to find helmets like these were the badges look like they have never been painted. Perhaps the paint over time did not stick too well to copper bronze alloy badge. The metal has an orange red shade to it which is common for this badge.

I don't know about the cipher but I'm 100% sure the helmet it's authentic. Also the cipher also looks good but it's too clean when it should be painted at least some painted must have survived over the years initially the inside of the cipher was black and the other edge the color of the helmet.
My biggest concern is about the helmet being a post 1940, well actually post 1941 helmet, with a Carol II cipher I have never seen or heard about such a thing so I'm in doubt if the cipher wasn’t added post war only to add value and wasn’t painted as it would be impossible to match the paint of the helmet. Also around the north, north-east and east edge of the cipher the paint is damaged either from solder or paint remover. Just my 2 cents. |
