I.m a Slovenian digger and search on Isonzo front a ww1 stuff.
Today am found a badge witch could be Romanian. Is known that the Romanian soldier was on Isonzo front, but their relics are hard to find.
Can you tell me more abaut the badge and the 2 regiment?

This is a bit strange because Romanians that fought at the Italian front in WW1 were in the Austro-hungarian Army, are you sure this is from Isonzo?

Yes i know that the romanian was on Austrohungarian side. And the badge was founded in Austrohungarian barracks. Long time ago one my friend found an belt buckle with Romanian lions...

It,s maybe something older than ww1?
Maybe some Romanian soldier have the badge?

No, the Kingdom of Romania, as of 1916, fought against Austro-hungaria and Germany in WW1, the Romanians I speak about were Austro-hungarian citizens from Transilvania and Bukovina, when this territories were part of the Austro-hungarian empire.

I believe the badge you found is from WW1 because the coat of arms seems to be the one used before 1918. Maybe this badge was taken as a souvenir by a Austro-hungarian soldier in 1916 form the Romanian front, and the his unit was transferred at Isonzo where he lost it.

This could be a plausible option....
Do you seen before those type of badges?

To tell you the truth, I haven't seen such a badge before, the script on the badge reads: REG. VALCEA No. 2 / ȘEF DE GARNISONA (Chief of the garrison), so this badge belonged to the chief of the 2nd Vâlcea regiment's garrison.

Maybe more experienced forum users can tell you more about the history of this regiment.

I think in this case "Reg. 2" may refer to "Regiunea 2 Militara". (Second Military Region).
Also, a "sef de garnizoana" is more of a desk-bound clerk than a fighting soldier, so that makes it very likely that this made its way to where you found it as a "collector's item".

I think is from Regimentul 2 Valcea (Infantry Regiment)

The forty original Romanian Infantry Regiments before ww1 were
Regimentul 1 Dolj (Craiova)
Regimentul 2 Valcea (Ramnicu-Valcea)
Regimentul 3 Olt (Slatina)
Regimentul 4 Arges (Pitesti)
Regimentul 5 Vlasca (Giurgiu)
Regimentul 6 Mihai Viteazul (Bucuresti)
................
Regimentul 40 Calugareni (Bucuresti)


When ww1 started, another 41 infantry regiments were formed from reservists

Also, the commander of the 2nd Regiment was the garrison commander. So, I vote for IonIonescu's opinion, it was a souvenir

Do you have any foto of others sef de garnisons who were those badge?

As I already said, I haven't seen such badges before, nor any photos with wearers. If I would have to guess, I think he would wear the badge on his left tunic pocket.
