Hello!
I hope this is the right place for this thread. I'm interested in photos of USAAF 15th AF B-17 Flying Fortresses involved in missions aganist the targets in Romania during 1944. Downed, crash-landed, damaged planes, in-flight... every kind of pics with Italy based B-17s are welcome. Greetings to all. This post has been edited by vasa on September 17, 2008 03:37 pm |

Vasa,
Here is an USAF image of a B-17 5 May 1944 mission to Poesti. Damage caused by flak no indication of what BG, A/C, or parachutes seen. Sorry, I'll have to try to attach it later when I have more time. Cheers, Steve This post has been edited by Steve on October 01, 2008 12:32 am |

New try, this time much more specified:
Looking for any existing photos of B-17G 42-31452 ''Fifty Packin Mama'' of the 20th BS/2nd BG , lost on Ploesti mission on July 22, 1944. Crashed in Zimnicea area. Especially looking the after-crash photos. Any help? |

Vasa,
There is a picture of ''Fifty Packin' Mama'' in "Flying Fortress Units of the MTO" by William Hess. The image is a close-up of the front of the ship with two people in front of it. I don't have the book right in front of me, but can look up the names if you are interested. Also a drawing of the whole plane. The picture is credited to USAAF so you might be able to find it on www.footnote.com. Steve |

Thanks Steve.
I already know for that photo and the color profile from the Osprey's book. In a matter of fact, I'm trying to find out the exact look of its tail markings at the time it was lost. Does it got the white rudder & elevators by then or not? That's why I asked for after-crash photos. But thanks anway. |
