Does anyone have any info on the Bf109 Flown by Dumitru Baciu after August 1944?
I am interested in aircraft numbers (and colour of these numbers) and the serial numbers.
Any photos will be welcome too.
Radu

I also thinking that could be one of the plane flown by Lt Baciu. But it's only a guess due to a picture of him standing by "Ţumpi Bumpi Floştomok". The number of the plane is "blue 8 "
Below a picture with Bf109's of Gr1 on west front. The first one is "blue 8" Ţumpi Bumpi Floştomok , the second is "blue9". The heavy dark green mottled Bf 109's is specific of ASAM workshops.

Something like "itsy bitsy" tongue.gif
In the book "Inimi cat sa cuprinda cerul patriei" of Cornel Marandiuc, Lt Senchea veteran pilot from gr 7/9Vt, mentioned that in april '44, the 1st FG arrived on the front (after 7 months of transition to the Bf 109G, the group had IAR81C before) with their planes painted very colorful with names of girls, etc. One plane had a distinctive name " Tumpi Bumpi Flostomok!"painted on engine cowling and that was the mount of B. ( in 1stFG the only name starting with B was Baciu)
Also a picture with Lt Baciu standing near "Tumpi Bumpi Flostomok!" indicate that most probably was his mount.

Wasn't the date rather February 1945, in Slovakia? I cannot check Marandiuc's book, but this would be the logical date.

I'v checked the book. It was April '44. Indeed, no logical date. Many vets (including Senchea) wondering why so late ? (7 month for training)
The first mentioned combat of 1stFG on western front was on 16 aprilie '45 when in 3 missions with 11 Bf 109 made protection for Observation planes and Bombers (S-79 and Ju 88) attacking Uhersky Brod, Uhersky Gradisch and Ostrokovitz railstations.
