QUOTE
How comes that you wrote Seeger's poem in German and not in English? Do you hate Americans, by any chance?

Marlene Dietrich (german) and Joan Baez (american) performed the german version of the lirycs. So I don't hate Americans or other nations. Just a preferance of the singers. tongue.gif

I understand, now...
I see you are interested in Aeronautics. Does the name Horia Agarici tell you anything? I read in a book (Romania in WW2, by C-tin. Kiriţescu), but I have found no other source, that he was a lieutenat credited with the first Sowiet plane knocked down in the war. Do you know anything about this? If this was a matter already discussed in this forum, will you "guide" me? biggrin.gif
Thanx!

QUOTE (feic7346 @ December 05, 2008 07:34 pm)
Radar and aircraft carriers?
1- u dont need aircraft carriers when fighting only within the Mediterrenean! The Italian fleet was never too far from Italy and so could always call on Air support. Sometimes that air support was German. Look to the horrendous losses of teh British when evacuating Crete. So that is not valid.
2- As far as radar it might not have had radar in 1939 but I believe they had it by 1943. The Italians never fought forget about the equipment. Same for the Romanians! A common theme is if only they had better equipment they would have fought. That was false. Even when they had better equipment they did not fight.
No Yamato death runs for the Italian fleet.

The italian fleet was serious hurt by British carrier based aircraft.
Examples are at raid on taranto by sowrdfish torpepdo bombers and several other
actions.

The situation was made worse because there was very limited inter service support in all axis forces.

In the evacuation of Crete the British had no carriers deployed. These loses prove how important air cover is.

Not-so-"off-topic": I just found out some archive documents according to which not only we didn't have armored manufacturing capacity, we didn't even have drivers for the motorization of army units! Poor country - not very well instructed people! sad.gif
