You probably misread or misunderstood the text. The Russians "confiscated" a lot of things, but not the lot. Aeronautica Romana still used Bf109s after August 1944 and they continued to use them well into the 1950s. Aeronautica Romana continued to operate as an effective air force after August 1944, which was possible becasue they still had aircraft left, many of which were German-manufactured - this includes Bf109, Ju88, He111, Ju87, Hs129, Ju52, etc. Radu |

QUOTE aircraft's repaired at ASAM Bucharest were taken by the soviets as war capture and sent USSR whiteout allowing that even a small number to be sent on the front line". QUOTE
I don`t think I misunderstood or misread the text. If you have the issue (no 4/2002 Aeromagazin) I`m talking about you could see for yourself. Or I did not translate correct in English. Then please my humble apologize. |

Ovichelu,
no one denies the fact that the Russians took aircraft. That does not mean that they took all of them. that article you quote deals with activity of Aeronautuca Romana after, as you allege, the Russians took the aircraft. It stands to reason that some were left. That is what I have been saying. What is actually your point? Radu This post has been edited by Radub on January 12, 2009 05:12 pm |

Yes if you put it that way yes I agree. My point is that our 'ally' was taking equipement that was ours and we needed them to defeat the same enemy that he was fighting. And above all he was acusing us that we don`t want to fight. correct me if I`m wrong. And another question : how manny of the aircraft that we hawe captured from Germans was left to us? I know that romanians were hiding captured materials from Germans so that the Soviets wot confiscate them.

The Russians took a lot of things. They took my grandfather's horses and sheep too.
Some of the aircraft the Russians took were aircraft that we took from the Germans the day before. You can say we just held them for a day or two. I am not entirely sure about the deal that the Romanians had with the Russians, but in as far as I know, equipment that belonged to the Wehrmacht or Luftwaffe could be claimed as "spoils of war" by the Russians, no matter where they found it. Also, it was a war. The country was in turmoil. Battles were taking place around Baneasa and Otopeni. People were dying, many were fleeing. Equipment was abandoned. Mistakes (intentonal or not ) happened. It is not really fair to judge that situation with today's eyes. Radu |

think it was an unconditioned surrender but posted as a great deal . So if your ally captures aircraft's tanks etc you can take them as an spoil of war? Even if your ally needs them to sustain his fight? Why not claim them when war is over? This is the part I don`t understand and make`s me feel to say what I sayed above. And more important how can you take prisoners and equipment(planes tanks etc) when he just became your ally?

Put your self in the skin of the russians. Romania fought against them for almost 3 years. Do you think they can forget in one day ? ( even knowing that Romania changing side could help in shortening the war ). This post has been edited by Cantacuzino on January 13, 2009 02:29 pm |

I think we can end this topic by saying that romanians never had jet planes before the soviets models arival and there was no project for something like that.
