I found on eBay this interesting photo of a German-registered glider named Dr. Ing. Popp.
The name sounds like a Rumanian from Transylvania. Does anyone know further details? Gen. Dénes |

In old German capital I is sometimes spelled as J. E.g., 'Jnfanterie'. Gen. Dénes P.S. You're right about the Swastika, it's prohibited to be shown on eBay (except for on coins and stamps). This post has been edited by Dénes on February 27, 2008 02:12 pm |

sorry for the late reply.
Ing. is short form of engineer (in German Ingenieur), a degree you get after studying technical engineering at a technical highschool (on univeristy, you must write a diploma thesis to become a Diplom-Ingenieur, or Dipl.-Ing.). Nowadays, it's a Master of Science (MSc). If you continue at university, you can do a promotion (no, nothing to do with advertising) which means that you write a even bigger scientific thesis and work on a scientific matter, so your degree will be updated to a Doktor. In technical engineering, you upgrade your Dipl.-Ing. to a Dr.Ing. Popp is a common german name. In Germany the use of the swastika is banned, so it must be blackened at ebay. Best regards, Peter |

Franz Josef Popp was one of the founders of the BMW company. Perhaps it belonged to him but I do not know if he had any interest in gliding.
