In the past few weeks i was doing some reserch on crash sites near Bucharest. My first targets - a B-24 crashed in the Ogezeni city, atacked by a me-110, and also the me-110 that sent the liberator in flames, was hit by a waist gunner in the B-24. The ME-110 crushed near Bolintin Vale.
I went to Ogrezeni, my grand mother talked to some old people that pointed the place of the crash. The viligers i fond arond there described me very interesting detailes, but horible in the same time. The plane was stoped by an old tree, he allmost hit a house. Now the place is cultivated and i found no trace, no metal no nothing, but a few very small metal pices. Then in Bolintin (1-2 km away) i found a hump in a field. There was also no trace but i heard of a vilager thet was working as a guard at a hospital near the crash that took a pice of the plane to defand his home fire :? i got to this man but he wasn't home so i spoked whit his wife. And i got to see, and picture the pice o metal that look preaty good. I'll upload some pics later when i get home. Can you help whit some information about these events, or other crashes in this area? Thank you! |

I have a small icon from an American bomber that crashed at "Gligan" in 28/07/1944. Someone wrote this information on the opposite side.
I asked some people about it and I found from an American gentelman some names of three B24 that crashed that day over the Romanian soil. But there were some b17 that crashed too so i can't tell if it was a B24 or a B17. How the conversation about "wreks" is open I ask you gently to tell me if you know about the village Gligan. In another site someone wrote me that in the early 80 it exist two villages "Giganu de sus" and "Gliganu de jos" 25 km SE Ploesti. But today what are the new names???? I can send you a scaned photo with the icon, if interested. Let me know. Yours, BM |

The event you described fits perfectly the circumstances of death of Cpt. av. Marin Ghica on August 1, 1943. Aboard his Bf 110C, Werknummer 1819, he attacked a B-24 in daylight. Prince Ghica scored several hits on the four-engine bomber (a source mentions that he actually downed the Liberator, but was not officially credited with the victory). In turn, the Liberator's gunner hit the Messerschmitt, which - according to documents - crashed at Bolintinu de Vale - the same place mentioned by you. Both the pilot and the radio operator/rear gunner, Submaistru RTFF Gheorghe Teliban, bailed out of the burning airplane, but the pilot's parachute did not open and he died. You can find further details and a colour profile of Ghica's Bf 110 in my recent book on Rumanian aces in W.W. 2, p. 43. Please keep us updated if you'll find more airplane wrecks. Dénes |

i am very happy that are people that share my interests my info about the event is from this page: http://www.elknet.pl/acestory/tidalwave/tidalwave.htm i ve never heard of Giganu, but ill ask some people soon i think i can find out the location. But is probably far from Bucharest, and i dont have a car ... about the ME-110 - the pice of metal i pictured, i can't find it on this plane ... here, i will try to upload some pics. www.cipiamon.home.ro im in the fog here... the registration number on the pice of metal was somthing like this .......werke , sory but i cant remeber. It was in german language. but where does it come from? |

I must rectify Orok's very flattering comments. I might be one of the most knowledgeable persons on ARR outside Rumania, but there are quite a few historians living in Rumania, who know way more than I do. After all, the archives are right there, virtually under their feet, not mentioning the few still surviving veterans, whose stories have to be collected and told. I just try to do my best to show to the world, in English language, the feats of Rumanian airmen and the history of ARR in general, as it was, without unnecessary "frills", in a hopefully unbiased and neutral manner. Sometimes, however, I am getting "fried" for my work, though... Dénes |

So did u see the pictures? What do you think? I dont think the pice of metal is from the me110, and that meens is another plane that is crushed in Bolintin. |

On 1 August 1943 there was also a B-24 brought down by adj. stg. av. Ioan Nicola (45th FS/4th FG) south of Ogrezeni.

From the vilagers of Ogrezeni i heard there was only one downed aiplane.
And it was in the north of Ogrezeni, i am sure. |
