Can someone identify this pair of shoulder boards for a Lieutenant ? I am thinking that they may have been for the armoured tank school at Targevista.

The photo I posted was a little deceptive. After receiving these boards the other day and upon cleaning them, I found that the base color of the cloth was black and not gray making it an Artillery designation. The metal rank stripes are silver but most of the gilting has worn off, and the cypher insignia is in gold gilt. I still have not been able to identify this pair. Any thoughts ?

Now that we talk about artillery it might be a stylized M (if you look at it from the button) for Mountain artillery. But this is just a theory but it's definitely not an E as the two shoulder boards are identical.

I beleive I have narrowed down my search in identifying this pair of shoulder boards. Black base, silver rank stripes and gold insignia which is unknown to me. The colors indicate that these shoulder boards belonged to the Specialized Engineer Troops. The gold insignia whould of course indicate which branch. The Specialized Engineer Troops are as follows :
- Sapper / Pionier
- Signal Units
- Pontoneers
- Railroad Units
- Road Units
- Work and Fortification Units
- Schools

Anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks Al. How do you know this insignia to be Pioniere ? Did the other units in the Specialized Engineer Troops have their own distinct insignias ?
