Until further proof I consider it a fantasy helmet.

Edited: The German army used captured Dutch helmets for rear guard units, that's why they didn't stopped the production, but that kind of modification is too much.

It's not too big; the liner is the big difference.

Here's a link with some helpful photos: http://www.xs4all.nl/~gastein/dutch_m16_m38.htm

Hmmm...seems to me that there is something strange in here...
There is more than the difference in the liner, look at the shape of the skirt.
And more, one of these sites shows the M28 type for M34 and vice-versa for the other site.
Am I wrong?

IC = Îndrumător de circulaţie (traffic director - the guy that directs the traffic)
It was used in the comunist era.

What do you mean by skirt, the shape of the helmet?

The site I think is wrong is this one http://www.nyc-techwriters.com/militaria/r...ian_helmets.htm as it shows, in the Romanian section, a repainted shell (with some satin paint, not Romanian) with 100% new German liner inside as "m38/42" helmet. The other helmet he shows as an m28 with "specially mounted German M31 liner" is a normally mounted German m31 liner to an m34 helmet. Also this site shows in the Dutch section an "m23-27" that looks to me like an m28 as I never heard of an "m23-27".
And further more the other site is Dutch. wink.gif

Yes, I meant the shape of the helmet. It appears to be a difference between M28 and M34.... huh.gif

Yes I also noticed the different shape; it was always a mystery why my two Dutch helmets have different shapes.

Here are some photos of my two helmets and from: http://www.xs4all.nl/~gastein/dutch_m16_m38.htm .

My helmets (the helmets never change places in these pictures so the one with Dutch liner is on the left and the one with German m31 liner is on the right):

Thanks. I will try to clean the lether also but what can I use?

You can use paint stripper (diluant) or nail cleaner (acetona). But you need to insist a bit to remove the pain from the leather, I never tested it on leather so try it first on a small area, (but I doubt that it would harm the leather).

Good luck. smile.gif

I tried this on my helmet on a little piece of chinstrap and it turned it black. On the leather the effect is good, it returned to it's original colour.
