Romanian helmets

Actually, a friend of mine gave it to me. His grandfather was a ww2 veteran, medic.

Yes it is and sorry that I said earlier that it is a post war modification, never seen a Romanian Dutch helmet with brown interior.

Unfortunately yours is also missing the wool (pasla) padding.

Offtopic: unfortunately, his grandfather died a few years ago......I was also interested in talking with him but, that's life.

Hello Andi can you show me a better picture with the chinstrap of you helmet.

Andi I will try and to find what you asked me. I will go this weekend at some military bases and talk with them and see what i can do. I will send you an email tomorrow.

Hello Claudiu, there are some photos. As you can see, the chinstrap is in one piece. There is no left or right side of it.






The rivet is going through the chinstrap first, then the liner ( they are hold toghether by it). Unfortunately, the photo is blurry, but there is no other buckle to fix the chinstrap to the helmet.

It appears to be made from two pieces sued together; I think it was made for officers and higher ranks.

Victory!!! At last after days of work I finished my helmet, it was very hard because some of the paint was hard to take off, but it's finishe. Here it is I think it turned up quite nicelly. What do you think?

Extraordinary result, now the paint beneath the liner matches the rest of the helmet.

Aren't you going to try to clean the leather?

And an advice use some very fine sand paper to clean the small remains of the paint and some of the scratches and after that some lacquer to make it look good.
